Best of 2019 – Emoji Files, Part V: The LOL Awards

Posted 5 January 2020 by Katie in Christian Fiction, Contemporary, Humour, Romance, Young Adult / 6 Comments

Greetings, reader friends! Today we reach the end of my annual Emoji Files celebrating my best reads of 2019. If you’ve missed my previous posts for 2019, make sure you check out The Swoony Awards, Got Me in the Feels, The WOW Awards, and Take Me Away.

The LOL Awards are, not surprisingly, for those books that have made me laugh this year. In some ways, this is one of the most difficult awards to give because humour can be such a personal thing. One person’s idea of humour may not even garner a smile from the next person. One person enjoys witty banter, another situational comedy. Then there’s the fact that I didn’t really read that many books that were humorous. Sure, there were plenty of reads that had funny moments, but books that were memorable for being light-hearted or humorous were few and far between. Consequently, I have just four books for this list.

I think I might make a resolution to find more humorous books to read in 2020!

The Truth About Romantic Comedies by Sean McMurray (read my review)
Wooing Cadie McCaffrey by Bethany Turner (read my review)
Her Stand-In Cowboy by Crystal Walton (read my reviews)
Off-Script & Over-Caffeinated by Rhonda Rhea and Kaley Rhea (read my review)

Which books made you laugh in 2019?

  1. (Accepts the LOL Award and approaches the microphone) Oh my! I wasn’t expecting this so I didn’t prepare anything. (Pulls out paper and unrolls it like a scroll) I want to thank the Academy. I want to thank my wife—we did it baby! I want to thank my 2—er—3 children. I want to thank the man upstairs, Frank and his cats, who keep their apartment quiet so I can write. A huge shout out to my squad: Snuffy, Al, Leo, Little Moe with the gimpy leg, Cheeks (music begins to play) Wait! I’m not done! I want to thank nacho cheese Doritos but not cool ranch, Bacon—both Pork and Kevin. My editor Tony Stark (the music gets louder as two burly men in suits escort me from stage)

Seriously, this award gladdens my heart! Thank you so much for including my book on the list. God bless!

  2. Rhonda Rhea

Probably my very fave place to be–right here in Emoji Files LOL Awards! All the smiles and all the thanks!
