Best of 2019 – Emoji Files 2019, Part I: The Swoony Awards (and Top Ten Tuesday)

Posted 31 December 2019 by Katie in Christian Fiction, Contemporary, Historical, Romance, Top Ten Tuesday / 18 Comments

Happy Tuesday, reader friends, and welcome to the final Top Ten Tuesday for 2019 thanks to That Artsy Reader Girl. Being the last day of 2019, it’s hardly surprising that today’s topic is favourite reads of 2019. For the last two years, I’ve presented my favourite reads for the year as a series of posts I’ve called The Emoji Files. Here’s how I break down my favourite reads:

😍 The Swoony Awards  all the romance (le sigh!)
😢 Got Me In The Feels – the books that reached in and plucked my heartstrings
😲 The WOW Awards – suspense, thrills, and high stakes
❤️️ Take Me Away . . . – fully immersive reads that took me to times and places far away
😆 The LOL Awards – from light-hearted to bust-a-gut humour

Today, I’ll be giving you my swoony favourites of 2019. Stay tuned over the next four days to get the rest of my 2019 highlights!

What makes a romance a swoony read for me? I love emotional connection between the hero and heroine—shared experiences, shared laughter, shared tears—and of course, genuine romantic tension springing from that emotional connection. I’m also a sucker for an excellent enemies to lovers, hence Tamara Leigh’s Fearless. Oh, and I don’t want to be told about the characters’ developing feelings so much as I want the writing to make me FEEL them!

Brunch at Bittersweet Cafè by Carla Laureano (read my review)
A Modest Independence by Mimi Matthews (read my review)
A Convenient Fiction by Mimi Matthews (read my review)

The Number of Love by Roseanna M. White (read my review)
Four Dreams of You by Sondra Kraak (read my review)
Fearless by Tamara Leigh (read my review)

Carry Me Home by Dorothy Adamek (read my review)
Carry Me Away by Dorothy Adamek (read my review)

  1. Hallo, Hallo,..

There are some lovely new authors on your List for TTT today I haven’t stumbled across yet myself – I’ll have to come back after New Year’s to check them out on your blog and see what your thoughts are about them directly. If you wanted to know which INSPY stories / authors suited my list featuring all the lovely #newtomeauthors for 2019 – happily come visit with me and see who made my Top Ten Tuesday!

I love finding new book bloggers to follow and also especially to find bloggers who share a love of INSPY Lit! I’m a hybrid reader – so you’ll find me blogging about both my love of mainstream & INSPY literature on my blog. Which I’m finding is the same for you! We’re rare breeds! I don’t oft find a book blogger who likes both worlds of interest and I can’t remember if I’ve been on your blog in the past (blame the chronic migraines)… either way, I’ll be back!

I hope you had a lovely Happy New Year’s 2020! Here’s to many new bookish adventures!!

PS: This has to be the YEAR I start reading Mimi Matthews!!

    • We sound like very similar readers. I’m glad you found me! 🙂 And yes, you definitely need to read Mimi Matthews! Happy new year!
