This week’s Top Ten Tuesday from the girls at The Broke and the Bookish is a cover theme freebie. Choices, choices, choices! Do you know how many ideas there are for cover themes? Well, in actual fact, I couldn’t come up with one! I think my brain kind of went into meltdown, and so I started scrolling through my Kindle collection looking for ideas. And do you know what jumped out at me?

Shoes.

Sooooooo many books have people on their covers, most often faces or upper bodies, sometimes a torso that stops before revealing the face. Don’t get me wrong. I love plenty of these covers, but there’s something about a cover where shoes (or feet) are the focal point that always makes me stop. I don’t know why.

So I started listing the books that have feet, shoes, or the lower half of the body as the focal point. And, don’t you know it, I’ve had such fun putting this post together. And a special shout out to the members of the Facebook group Avid Readers of Christian Fiction who helped with suggestions, just because I was having so much fun with this theme!

And, um, I didn’t even bother trying to stick to ten! 😊

Book covers in this post are affiliate links with Amazon. It does not cost you any extra to purchase through these links, but I do earn a teensy tiny commission on the sale, which helps in the running of this site. 🙂

Also, I haven’t read many of the books below, so their inclusion is not necessarily a recommendation. I’m just all about the feet today!

~ Couples facing one another ~

Once I hit upon the theme of shoes, Kara Isaac’s cover was the first one that came to mind, because it was exactly this feature that attracted me to her book in the first place. Then I read the blurb and was sold! You can read my review here. I’m not sure what it is about this particular cover type, but I love it. And I know Becky Wade’s cover shows pretty much all of the couple, but my eye is invariably drawn to those pink shoes!

~ Shoes ~

Lynne Gentry’s book was the book that jumped out at me from my Kindle and said, “Do shoes!” I mean, look at them! There is no way I would ever wear those shoes—first of all, I’m not really a heels girl, and second of all . . . well, I’m usually trying to divert attention from my ankles and legs!—but that doesn’t mean I can’t admire them from afar. That led me to find all sorts of other covers where shoes feature prominently, ranging from high fashion right down to the lowly tho— er . . . flip-flop! 😜

PS – I think Julie Carobini’s cover gets the award for the most creative use of a shoe!

~ Groups of feet ~

Isn’t it interesting how much can actually be conveyed by feet and legs? I don’t know about you, but I get a feel for each of these novels just by the way the feet are positioned.

~ Bare feet ~

Well, you certainly wouldn’t find me posing with my feet on a cover, but there’s someting about bare feet. They can be intimate, they can be vulnerable, they can be carefree and relaxed. And in the case of babies, incredibly kissable! And yes, some of those couples-facing-each-other shots have made their way into the mix! 🙂

~ Ballet shoes ~

This one is for my ballet-crazy daughter. I really need to find more of these . . .

~ Boots ~

Who doesn’t love a good, sturdy pair of boots?!

~ Series ~

Some whole series have taken on a foot fettish with their covers. The original covers for the Yada Yada Prayer group each had covers featuring feet, although I think the Kindle version, at least, has been updated with a new cover. Melody Carlson’s The Dating Games series also has a leg-theme going on.

And finally, if this hasn’t satisfied your foot fettish when it comes to book covers, check out these lists on Goodreads!

Have I left off your favourite foot-fettish cover? Let me know in the comments. Otherwise, share what cover themes catch your eye!
