Top Ten Tuesday – My Stand-Alone TBR

Welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday, brought to you by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is actually Stand Alone Books That Need A Sequel, but when I sat down to think about which books I would include on that list, I found myself running into a few problems:

A) It’s not often I’ve actually wished for a sequel to a stand-alone book. There are times when I’ve wished I could spend more time with characters (like at the end of North and South, because I’d been soooooo patient waiting for Margaret and John to finally get together that I really would have loved the chance to enjoy that togetherness for a little bit), but when it comes to the crunch, stand-alone books are often best left that way in my opinion.

B) I seem to have read surprisingly few stand-alone books!

Put those two things together, and I was having a hard time coming up with books to include in my list. But it has led to a new resolution: Read more stand-alone novels! And so I’ve been over my Want to Read list on Goodreads and come up with a list of stand-alone novels I really need to read soon!

So how about you? Do you read a lot of stand-alone novels or do you gravitate towards series? And have you read any of the books I’ve got my eye on?

  1. I gave my friend a copy of Missing Isaac for Christmas because it was a Christy winner. The next time I saw her, she raved about it. In fact, she said the author could stop writing because it was probably the best book she’ll ever write. I’ll see if she feels that way after I give her Luesse’s new book. 😉

  2. I’ve read a few on your list. I highly recommend Missing Isaac (it made my list today) and We Hope for Better Things. I, too, read a lot of series. I like them, but sometimes I want a book that tells the complete story.

Yep. I know exactly what you mean. And I’ve heard lots of good things about Missing Isaac 🙂

  3. Your list kills me!!! How have you not read Dear Mr. Knightly, Siri L. Mitchell’s contemporaries, Blackmoore (scrolls up to review list again), Olivia Twist, and Johnny Devine?! I mean Johnny. Devine!!!!! Okay I think I’ve calmed back down. As you can see I have opinions on which ones you should read.

Lol! Call the ambulance… 🚑🚑🚑 And I don’t know. Obviously I’ve been very remiss!

  4. Dear Mr. Knightley, Courting Morrow Little (I die!!), and Kissing Adrien – shoot them up to the top, my friend – then debrief with me when you have read them 🙂

I prefer stand alones… which makes me an odd duck, I guess. 🙂 Courting Morrow Little is… well, just wow. I’m looking forward to reading We Hope For Better Things.

You’re largely responsible for it being on this list! Although I think Rel has mentioned it too. 😊

I am half way through The Memoir of Johnny Devine right now. I think I will not get anything done until I finish it! Highly recommend it!
