The heat from the cab slowly thawed him out. Marcus stared straight ahead as words ripped from his throat. “You mind telling me why you decided to drive up the mountain in a blizzard without proper attire?” He gripped the steering wheel as he battled memories.
“I’m sorry. I was upset when I left home.”
“And you thought it would be smart to, what, just drive?” Women and their emotions. He scoffed, turning to look her in the eyes.
Her dark irises swam with tears, but her gaze had turned to flint. “Sorry I didn’t take the time to turn off my emotions and flip the logic switch. Maybe I have a heart.”
“Are you calling me a tinman?”
“I don’t know. Do you need some oil?”

He exhaled. “Look, I’m sorry. It’s been a stressful day. I didn’t mean to take it out on you.” He opened his eyes and met her gaze. “Will you forgive me?” He held out his hand.
Wariness coated her dark eyes. “Just like that?”
    “If you’re willing.”
She bit her lip, studying his hand, then his face, and then his hand again. She placed her fingers in his. “Forgiven.”
    Marcus exhaled. “Thank you.”
