First Line Friday – The Story Raider (Lindsay A. Franklin)

Happy Friday, book lovers, and welcome to First Line Friday hosted by Hoarding Books. I thoroughly enjoyed Lindsay A. Franklin’s YA Fantasy novel The Story Peddler by when it released last year, so I’ve been looking forward to The Story Raider for a while now. This week, it’s finally reached the top of my TBR! And I’ve given you two sentences today, because I love how they work together. The first sentence seems so ordinary, but then you add the second sentence and suddenly your interest is piqued! Better yet, it’s available right now!

About the Book

Deceiving an empire is a treacherous game.

Tanwen and the Corsyth weavers race to collect the strands of an ancient cure that might save Gryfelle. But Tanwen has a secret: Gryfelle isn’t the only one afflicted by the weaver’s curse.

As Queen Braith struggles to assert her rule, a new arrival throws her tenuous claim to the Tirian throne into question. Braith’s heart is turned upside down, and she’s not sure she can trust anyone—least of all herself.

The puppet master behind Gareth’s rise to power has designs on the story weavers and will stop at nothing to reclaim the throne. A plot to incite the angry peasants of Tir takes shape, and those dearest to Tanwen will be caught in the crossfire. As the fight for Tir consumes the realm, no one can remain innocent.

“ Fire ripped through Finn’s right shoulder, ricocheting down his arm”

  2. I’m currently reading Full Steam Ahead by Karen Witemeyer and have shared the first line on my blog. Since I am listening to it on audible, I don’t have another line to share. But I will say that I absolutely ADORE Lindsay Franklin’s novels. 🙂 So much fun to read!

  3. Happy Friday! On my blog, I’m sharing Lord of Her Heart by Sherrinda Kerchersid, which I absolutely loved. Here I will share the first line from chapter 8 in my current read, A Promised Land by Kimberly Grist. “Meriwether’s mouth watered as she pulled the iron skillet from the woodburning stove.” Have a wonderful weekend!

Happy Friday! My first line is from “Brett, Billionaire Bodyguard” by Autumn Macarthur & Alexa Verde:

“Brett Jarvis grimaced, yawned, and snatched up his ringing cell phone. Two a.m. phone calls rarely meant good news, especially in his business.”

  5. Hi Katie, yes, that second line is intriguing and hooked me in!

I’m sharing on my blog the first line from Love and Other Mistakes by Jessica Kate.

Natalie Groves eyed the bag of Gingerbread M&M’s on the other side of the office meeting room and prayed for a divine intervention of Red Sea proportions.

I’m currently reading The Healing Jar by Wanda E. Brunstetter. I’m on chapter 19 so I’ll share the first line of that chapter. “Sara had just finished waiting on a customer when Brad came into the shop, wide-eyed and with deep furrows lining his forehead.”

  7. On my blog today I’m sharing the first few lines from A Glitter of Gold by Liz Johnson but I’m currently reading Whose Waves These Are by Amanda Dykes so I’ll share the first line from chapter 24 here: “Bess’s words travel with Annie down to the landing.” This book is soo good so far! Hope you have a great weekend!

  8. The closest book to hand is The Killing Tide by Dani Pettrey — Fire ripped through Finn’s right shoulder, ricocheting down his arm.

    Have a wonderful weekend!
