First Line Friday – Louisa: A Modern Faith Story

I’m baaa-aack! Sorry about my extended absence around here while I’ve been moving into our new home (insert HUGE grin, even as I type those words!). To say we’re loving being in our new home is an understatement. Yes, we still have plenty of unboxing to do (and culling!), but we’re well on our way to being settled and absolutely thrilled with how our new house has turned out. And hopefully, you’ll begin seeing a bit more of me around here again, once I’ve cleaned the rust out of my blogging gears. 😉

It is, of course, time for First Line Friday, hosted by Hoarding Books and this week I’m sharing the first line of a book I read before all the moving chaos got underway: Louisa. I will also have a review up soon, so keep an eye out, but I’ll give you a heads up and say it’s a great read. And in the meantime, check out my review for Lu.

About the Book

What happens after salvation – when you’ve changed, but others don’t see it? Author Beth Troy addresses this question from the first page, which finds Lu Sokolowski – the engaging and relatable heroine from Troy’s redemptive debut novel, Lu – back in her hometown with her expectations of a new life, dashed.

Lu has returned to Dunlap’s Creek with a hope to stay, but she struggles to right the wrongs she’d left behind, build a career outside of writing, and move on from the man who has moved on from her.

Louisa is a modern faith story of life after salvation that openly explores:

  • The disconnect between who we are and how others perceive us
  • The struggle in speaking up for our beliefs
  • The question of when to let go and when to fight
  • The journey in claiming a new identity

In turns captivating and pointed, Louisa is a novel of a woman coming into the fullness of life God has for her. It’s for women who have experienced this for themselves and for women who doubt whether such a life exists. It’s for women who understand that a life of faith isn’t without struggle or mistakes. Louisa is about restoration – in its grit and glory.

My first line is a long one from Chapter two of Vying for The Viscount by Kristi Hunter:
Suffolk was as beautiful as his father had claimed, and the estate and stables were even grander than his grandfather had described in his letters, but no one had warned Hudson that the area was inhabited by crazed women.

  2. Happy Friday!
I’m currently reading The Crushing Depths by Dani Pettrey. I’m on chapter 41, so I’ll share from there.
“When Logan left to meet Bella Armstrong at a coffee shop and Emmy was engrossed in searching for answers on Rick Carson, Noah grabbed the folder Austin Kelly had given them and tucked it under his arm.”
Hope you have a relaxing weekend! 🙂❤📚

  3. Happy Friday!!

Yay for moving successfully!! Hope you get a little rest from all the unboxing this weekend 🙂

Over on my blog I shared the first line from Rocky Mountain Revenge by Rhonda Starnes “Grace Porter regretted she hadn’t stopped for fuel before leaving Denver two hours ago, when it was still daylight.”
