Happy Friday to you, where ever you are. And with all the natural disasters threatening at the moment, particularly in the States, I pray that where ever you are, you are safe.
If you’re looking for a read to help you escape the here and now for a little while, I can highly recommend today’s pick—although you’ll have to wait to Tuesday to pick it up. Nicole Deese’s new release, A New Shade of Summer, releases on 12 September and I promise you will very quickly fall in love with Callie, Davis, and Brandon.
Beth Erin over at Faithfully Bookish shared the first line from chapter one last week, so this week I’m going to be sharing the first line from chapter two. But first…

~ About the Book ~

As an artist, Callie Quinn relies on inspiration to guide her wandering soul. This summer she accepts a short-term muralist job in her sister’s charming town to spend some much-needed time with her family. After meeting her nephew’s friend, Brandon, she’s eager to draw out his untapped artistic talents—however, it’s the boy’s straitlaced single father who could use a little color in his life.
Davis Carter may be the town’s favorite animal whisperer, but his experience is limited when it comes to understanding his preteen’s rebellious behavior. Desperate for a breakthrough, he follows the lead of a free spirit who claims to know the way into his son’s closed-off world. Soon, Davis isn’t the only one caught up in the hope of a new beginning.
Just as Callie considers trading her unattached existence for a life rich with promise and permanence, an unexpected visit from the past threatens to send her packing once again. Davis and Callie must learn to surrender their fears so they can find a love that will outlast the summer.

  1. Next on my to-read pile is Unblemished by Sara Ella, which is a bit different to what I usually read. But it’s got a great first line:
    This is all my fault.
She’ll lose her soul because of me.
I’m looking forward to reading more by Nicole Deese!

  2. My current devotional book (what’s lying in front of me right now) has this at its first line “If you spend any time at all with me, you will know that I love the old hymns.” From “Beside Bethesda” by Joni Eareckson Tada. This book has been a tremendous challenge and a real inspiration to me!

  3. This looks awesome! My grandfather was both an animal whisperer (he had a pet puma, and would baby-sit his friend’s cheetah) AND he was a painter. The ducks would come visit him everyday as he painted sunsets on the canal. They wouldn’t show when he wasn’t there. Anyway, all that to say I think I’ll love these characters.

Come to a turable mountain that tried us almost to death to git over it. -WILLIAM CALK, HIS JURNAL MARCH YE 25TH 1775 SATTERDAY
    APRIL 1777
What cannot be cured must be endured. A Moonbow Night by Laura Frantz

  5. Paula

My first line is going to be the first paragraph because It is short! It’s from These Healing Hills by Ann Gabhart. And her writing has captured me again!
Francine Howard stepped off the bus into another world. She should have been prepared. She’d studied the Frontier Nursing information until she almost knew it by heart. That should have given her a glimpse into this place.
There are sooo many good quotes to glean from this book and I’m only on page 53!

  6. Another one for my growing #TBR! Sounds good 🙂
On my blog this week I’m sharing the first line from a book I just finished. The Case of the Clobbered Cad. It was a fun story to read.
I’ll share here the first line from a book my son is currently reading.
Tree Tall and the Whiteskins by Shirlee Evans
“Tree Tall crept through the high dew-damp grass along the creek bank. It was early. The sun was not yet over the hill.”

  7. My first line on my blog is from Colleen Coble. But I grabbed a book beside me for here.
“He’d found her.” by The Texan’s Courtship Lessons by Noelle Marchand. My mom gave this book to me and I haven’t read it yet.

I Just finished this book! Getting ready to write my ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐review! Loved every page of it! <3

    Happy Friday!!
My first line is from For Such a Moment by Marie Wells Coutu:
“Ellen Nielson scanned the large office, seeking a secret corner where she could escape.”

  10. My quote comes from The Pursuit of Lady Harriet by Rachel Anderson. This is book #3 in series. I highly recommend all three novels!
“‘How dreadful it would be to live on one’s own permanently,’ Lady Harriet Cavendish said to no one in particular as she walked through a thick grove of pines in Askern, Yorkshire.”
