Welcome to First Line Friday, hosted by Hoarding Books! Can you believe it’s the last First Line Friday for 2018? And I’m definitely going out with a bang with today’s choice: Firethorn by Ronie Kendig. This is book four in Ronie’s Discarded Heroes series, which she’s updated and rereleased over the last 18 months or so, and what a finale to the series!

~ About the Book ~

Former Marine and current Nightshade team member Griffin “Legend” Riddell is comfortable. So comfortable he never sees the set up that lands him in a maximum security prison, charged with murder. How can he prove his innocence behind bars?

Covert operative Kazi Faron is tasked with reassembling Nightshade—the black ops team someone dissected. Breaking Griffin out of a federal penitentiary amid explosive confusion may turn out to be her last assignment. What will it take to convince the fugitive that whoever set him up has also dissected the Nightshade team? As Kazi and Griffin race to rescue the others and discover the traitor, love begins to awaken in their hearts.

Can a covert operative and the felon she’s freed overcome their mutual distrust long enough to save Nightshade? Will anything prepare them for who—or what is coming?

~ First Line ~

“It’s sad, really.” Marshall “the Kid” Vaughn trudged away from the thumping rotors of the helo that had deposited them back at the Shack, his pack almost dragging on the ground. “Ya know—how people don’t realize how much someone adds until he’s gone.”

If you love suspense, make sure you don’t miss this series!

I’d love it if you’d share the first line of whatever you’re currently reading in the comments. And don’t forget, you can find out what other bloggers are sharing for First Line Friday by going over to Hoarding Books blog and finding all the links. My first line is from Chapter 16 of Flights of Fancy by Jen Turano:

Catching the biscuits on fire was most assuredly not the best way of honoring her promise to keep the house from burning to the ground.

Happy Friday! My first line is from “Through the Shadows” by Karen Barnett:

“Elizabeth King held her fingers against the ivory keys, refusing to stir as the final chord faded and silence descended on the parlor.”

  3. Happy Friday!

Today on my blog I’m sharing the first paragraph from A Bound Heart by Laura Frantz. I’m currently on chapter 12, so I’ll leave the first line from there.

“Lark smiled as the long-awaited bairn made his entry into the rain-washed July day.”

    It’s such a good book!

Hope you have a great day and a wonderful weekend full of rest and good reading time! 😀❤📚

  4. Happy Friday and Happy New Year!

My first lines come from Home For Christmas by Holly Chamberlin…..

It was the eleventh of December, a crisp winter day with not a cloud in the sky to threaten rain or snow. Nell King shivered as she came down the stairs from the second floor and into the living room.

Have a great weekend and happy reading!😊🎆💕

  5. On my blog, I’m featuring The Christmas Bride. I know Christmas is over, but this book was really good, I just had to share it. It’s about the Moravian community that I knew next to nothing about. It’s a fascinating love story. Here, I will share the first line of Chapter 29 of that same novel. “Catherine heard the savage Indians long before she saw them.” I wish you a wonderful weekend to relax and read.

  6. Sorry I’m a bit late coming around this week again! On my blog I featured With This Pledge by Tamera Alexander but I’m currently reading The Teacher’s Bride by Kathleen Fuller so I’ll share that first line here: “I can’t believe she came here without letting us know ahead of time.” Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
