~ About the Book ~

Former Marine and current Nightshade team member Griffin “Legend” Riddell is comfortable. So comfortable he never sees the set up that lands him in a maximum security prison, charged with murder. How can he prove his innocence behind bars?

Covert operative Kazi Faron is tasked with reassembling Nightshade—the black ops team someone dissected. Breaking Griffin out of a federal penitentiary amid explosive confusion may turn out to be her last assignment. What will it take to convince the fugitive that whoever set him up has also dissected the Nightshade team? As Kazi and Griffin race to rescue the others and discover the traitor, love begins to awaken in their hearts.

Can a covert operative and the felon she’s freed overcome their mutual distrust long enough to save Nightshade? Will anything prepare them for who—or what is coming?

Max spun. Out. How do I get out? He needed an exfil strategy. One that got him out alive. Intact, preferably. Only one way down—the stairs. But they led to the bay, which would be engulfed.
Crack! Boom!!
Steel groaned, pained by the fiery detonation.
He looked to the windows. They overlooked the dock. The canal. It’s cold-freakin-January. The water would be deathly cold.
No matter what route he took, it’d be deadly. Despite his training as a SEAL, once he broke surface if he didn’t find shelter out of the water, he’d die an ice cube. But if he stayed here, he’d die a fireball.
Good thing SEALs are insulated against cold water.
He vaulted toward the window, hurtling the computer through the window. The glass shattered as a violent force blasted through the air. It lifted him. Up . . . up . . . Flipped him. Searing pain sliced through his arm. Heat stroked his back and legs. Fire chased him out of the building. Into the night.
Boom!
Another wave slammed into him. Threw him backward. Toward the water.
Something punched his gut. Knocked the breath from his lungs. Bright white lit the night. Blinded him. Then—almost instantaneously—black. Pure black.
And he was falling . . . down . . . down . . .

Prepare yourself for an explosive finale before picking up this book. And prepare yourself for ALL the emotions. If there’s an emotion you don’t experience, go back and read it again, because you missed something!

This is, hands down, one of my all-time favourite series, and this book showcases all of the reasons why. Intense action, fantastic banter, high personal stakes (we’re talking heroes AND their families here!), and a plot that packs punch after punch—literally and figuratively! Kazi and Griffin are an amazing combination, so completely opposite in every way on the surface, and yet very similar when you glimpse down underneath the layers. And there’s something about the way these two get to know each other—having to trust each other fully in a professional sense, and yet so wary and guarded personally. It’s a scintillating dance—with quite a few acrobatics thrown in thanks to Kazi!

As the conclusion to a series, you couldn’t ask for more. (Well, technically there IS one thing I could ask for, but if I told you, that would be a spoiler!) You’ll be emotionally wrung out, and yet wanting more at the same time. And you’ll likely be thoroughly addicted to Ronie Kendig’s writing forevermore. But, hey. There are plenty of worse things to be addicted to, right?

So what are you waiting for? Read it, already!

I purchased my own copy of this novel and this review is my honest and unbiased opinion.
