Welcome to First Line Friday, hosted by Hoarding Books! I don’t know about you, but I  particularly love a good Regency romance, and Carolyn Miller is quickly becoming a favourite of mine! The second book in her Promise of Hope series releases next Tuesday, 24 July 2018! Make sure you don’t miss out on Miss Serena’s Secret.

~ About the Book ~

How can a wounded young woman ever trust a too-flirtatious earl with her heart?

With devastating scars in her past, Serena Winthrop is sure no man can be trusted—especially not a man like the too-smooth Viscount Carmichael. His reputation as a flirt and a gambler is everything she despises. And the young artist makes sure that this disreputable heir to an earldom knows of her deep disapproval whenever they encounter one another.

Henry, Lord Carmichael, is perfectly aware of his charms. He’s gambled with plenty of ladies’ hearts as easily as he has with their husbands’ money. But lately he’s wondered if there’s more to life—and if his actions might prove unworthy of an admirable wife such as his friends have found.

When Serena’s guardian asks his best friend to protect his young ward, Henry promises to be on his best behavior and not woo her. But the more he learns of her, the more he realizes she might be his best reason for changing his character.

Then the lady’s art leads her to London infamy. Now Henry must choose between the life mapped out for him as the earl apparent and the love of his life. And Serena’s secret may mean the end of his titled family line.

This second novel in a new series by internationally popular author Carolyn Miller is full of the rich historical detail and evocative writing her readers enjoy, and familiar characters make appearances here. The witty banter will continue to draw in fans of Jane Austen, Sarah Ladd, and Julie Klassen.

~ First Line ~

Warm summer sun lit the scene before her: a golden-yellow oak table boasting a squat blue vase with an arrangement of ferns and pink roses.

That warm summer sun is something I’m craving right now!

  1. I shared the first line of Jo Piazza’s upcoming novel “Charlotte Walsh Likes to Win” on my blog. I’m still currently reading it so, I’ll share the first line of chapter 19 instead.

“Ted Slaughter made a grand entrance onto the debate stage. When Chalotte went to shake his hand, he dropped to the floor to begin the first of thirty-seven push-ups.”

Happy reading! Hope you have a restful weekend! 💗

  4. I love Regency romances too. That sounds great!

My first line is from The Lonely Polygamist by Brady Udall. “To put it as simply as possible: this is the story of a polygamist who has an affair.”

  5. I just got my copy of this book. I can’t wait to get to it!!!

    Happy Friday!

Today on my blog, I’m sharing the first line from Woman of Clay by Linda Caddick. I’m currently on chapter 11, so I will share the first line from this chapter.

“Spring burst almost overnight in a full palette of brilliant colour, transforming the world into one which barely resembled the one Shana had inhabited just a week or two before.”

Hope you have an excellent weekend filled with great reading time! 😁❤📚

  6. I enjoy Carolyn Miller also, and that book sounds like another good one. On my blog, I’m featuring The Purchased Bride by Kit Morgan. Here, I will share the first line from Chapter Four of that novel. “Herman Mayer wasn’t the brightest or the nicest man around, and he knew it.” Wishing you a great Friday!

  7. Happy Friday!😎

My First Lines come from If Ever I Would Leave You by Susan May Warren…….

“Watching you die is the last thing I want to do on a Saturday morning.” Sierra said it in a low mutter, nearly under her breath, but Ian heard it anyway, a slash across his chest, right between the ribs.

Have a great weekend, stay cool, and Happy Reading!😊💖📚

  8. My first line is actually the same as yours, as I am reading Miss Serena’s Secret, too, courtesy of Ms. Miller and the publisher. I love Carolyn Miller’s writing style and have all her books so far if I’m not mistaken.

  9. Paula Shreckhise

My FLF quote is from Ann Gabhart’s newest book: River to Redemption.

    June 1833
Adria Starr didn’t want her mother and little brother to stop breathing the way her father had. She wanted to take care of them. She was seven.

Carolyn ‘s book is coming up soon to read!

    Happy Friday 🙂

Miss Serena’s Secret is on my list of books to read. I’ve been hearing a lot of positive things about it so far. I tentatively plan on reading Carolyn Miller’s A Legacy of Grace series next month.

This week’s FLF is Jen Turano’s A Match of Wits. I’m also reading Roseanna M. White’s Circle of Spies from the Culper Ring Series:

“Marietta Hughes was the worst widow in the history of mourning.”

Hope you have a nice weekend 🙂

  11. Sigh. I miss the warm summer sun. It’s been storming like crazy every day here in Florida. haha. I can’t wait to read Carolyn’s books. 😀

I’m sharing about “Trials of the Mighty” by Kenyon T. Henry on the blog today, but I’m currently reading “Unafraid” by Carey Scott. I’ll share the first line of chapter two.

Authentic living. What does it even mean?

Have a great weekend and happy reading!

  12. I could do with some warm summer sun as well. Today has a definite air of winter!

I’m sharing from Open Circle by Stacy Monson on my blog.

But Then There Was You by Kara Issac has just won the 2018 RITA Award for Romance with Religious or Spiritual Elements from Romance Writers of America, so I’m going to share the first line to celebrate Kara’s win:

Paige McAlister didn’t think think it was possible, but there was something worse than being single and thirty at your nineteen-year-old sister’s wedding.

  13. I’m hoping to try this author soon. I’m sharing from A Rebel Heart by Beth White on my blog today, here’s the first line of Chapter 2:

“Spyglass pressed to his good eye, Daughtry crouched behind a tree at the edge of the creek running through Buckner’s Ravine.”

    Happy reading!

  14. I do love the Regency era, but I don’t read many stories set then! I need to remedy that. 🙂

My first line comes from a hilarious novella I just finished, part of the Once Upon a Laugh collection releasing next week! “Lia ran through the prestigious 148-year-old halls, red ponytail flying behind her.” -If She Dares by Mikal Dawn
