Welcome to First Line Friday! First things first: I have to wish a very happy birthday to my hubby, a man who loves me unconditionally and fills my life with much love and laughter (and occasional eye-rolling! 😁) 💝💗💞 Maybe this will entice him to actually read my blog! 😉
This week I have had the pleasure of reading a fantastic romance suspense from debut author Erynn Newman. My review will be coming soon, but I can promise you, if you love romantic suspense, you will want to get a copy of this book.

~ About the Book ~

A bride and a widow in the same day, Elisabeth’s prayers are about to be answered . . . if the CIA, international arms dealers, and her best friend don’t stand in the way.
Elisabeth Allen gave her heart to Jesus as a little girl and to Drew Marek as a teenager. When their wedding day finally arrives, it’s the happiest day of her life–until a car bomb transforms her dream come true into a living nightmare.
As Best Man at the wedding, Gabriel Di Salvo promises Drew–his best friend and CIA partner–he’ll look after Elisabeth, but he never dreams it will become necessary so soon. As Elisabeth struggles to put the pieces of her life back together without Drew, Gabe becomes her rock, and as they share their grief and begin to heal, their friendship gradually deepens into something more.
Three years later, Gabe and Elisabeth are planning a future together when he receives a shocking call from the one man who can upend his happiness: Drew. Suspecting someone at the CIA is behind his abduction, Drew refuses to come home. Instead, he asks Gabe to bring Elisabeth to him. Now Gabe just has to figure out how to let her go.
Drew and Elisabeth race across Europe, dodging international arms dealers and attempting to reclaim what was stolen from them. But years of captivity and torture have left their mark on Drew. He is no longer the same boy Elisabeth fell in love with, but he is still her husband, and she’s determined to build something new and leave her relationship with Gabe in the past, if her heart will get the memo.
When their enemies close in and the threat of a terrorist attack escalates, Gabe may be the only person they can trust. Drew, Elisabeth, and Gabe are thrown into a fight for their lives–one that will test their loyalties to God, country . . . and each other.

~ First Line ~

Elisabeth spun under the twinkling lights of the dance floor, ivory lace swishing around her, the faces of loved ones blurring past as she clutched Drew’s hand. Nothing could touch the perfection of this moment . . . until her heel caught on the edge of her train and slipped out from under her.

I guess you’ll just have to get yourself a copy to find out how she recovers from that! 😉

  1. Happy Birthday to your husband. Did he read your blog today?
I’m off to a graduation for my cousin in a minute , but thought I’d leave you a first line before I go.
I thought I’d share something different here than the book featured on my blog today. This book is one my son is reading.
“Betsey Maxwell wearily trailed behind Loren as her brother dodged the muddy puddles, horse manure, and piles of crates in the narrow London street.”
    – The Thieves of Tyburn Square by: Dave & Neta Jackson
The Trailblazer Books – Bethany House Publisher 1995

    • He hasn’t read it, although, to be fair, it’s now 10:00pm and we’ve only just been able to sit down after having his family over for dinner. There’s still time yet!

Nice of you to mention your hubby’s birthday! 🙂
    Here’s my first line:
Garvin Poole slipped out of bed, got his lighter off the fireplace mantel, and walked in his underwear through the dark house to the kitchen, where he took a joint out of a sugar jar, then continued to the garden door. ~Golden Prey by John Sandford

  3. Happy Birthday to your hubby!
    Here’s my first line.

That sounds like the opening line to a Romantic Comedy book haha! Although the cover definitely says different!

Happy Friday! Sounds good, and I will have to check it out.
My first line is: “My heart beat as if it was trying to build up speed and erupt from my chest.” From Warfare:Life After Book 2 by Julie Hall. Coming out June 13th.

  6. Happy birthday, Hubby! Welcome, CJ and Molly!
My first line is from TURTLES IN THE ROAD, a humorous romance from mother/daughter duo Rhonda Rhea and Kaley Rhea. The book arrived yesterday, and I didn’t get to crack it open until 1:00 AM…but I just HAD to start it before bed! The first chapter is hilarious…and Piper is my new BF! — “Normally a nice long solo drive had a calming effect on Piper.”

Happy Birthday to your hubby! This book sounds intriguing. Thank you for sharing.
It’s a Regency weekend for me. Today I’ve started reading Carrie Turansky’s Edwardian Brides series.

    HAPPY FRIDAY and HAPPY READING!

  8. Happy Birthday to your hubby! 🙂
    My first line is:
    “New York City

Elise Neumann stared out the cracked third-story window to the muddy street below, watching the omnibuses and carriages slog their way through the muck.”
~With You Always by Jody Hedlund
    Happy Friday! 🙂

  9. I can’t wait to read her debut. I think I just saw her name for the first time yesterday! Adding it to my TBR list.
Here’s mine. Judy Hedlund’s For Love & Honor: “You have one month to pay the debt,” Captain Foxe stated, his tone as rigid as the plate armor he wore.

  10. Happy Friday! This is the book I have just started to read; Mrs. Odboddy: Undercover Courier. By Elaine Faber ” Lighting flashed and thunder rattled the windows of Wilkey’s Market where Agnes pushed a little metal cart through the crowded aisle.”
But I do have another great mystery up today on the blog!

  11. Happy Birthday Hubby!!
I love the cover, it’s very intriguing to me. Sounds like a great read. I am really into suspenseful books lately 🙂
