Welcome to First Line Friday, hosted by Hoarding Books. If you’re into romantic suspense with a bit of a Gothic feel to it, you need to get your hands on a copy of the book I’m featuring this week: The House on Foster Hill by Jaime Jo Wright.

~ About the Book ~

Kaine Prescott is no stranger to death. When her husband died two years ago, her pleas for further investigation into his suspicious death fell on deaf ears. In desperate need of a fresh start, Kaine purchases an old house sight unseen in her grandfather’s Wisconsin hometown. But one look at the eerie, abandoned house immediately leaves her questioning her rash decision. And when the house’s dark history comes back with a vengeance, Kaine is forced to face the terrifying realization she has nowhere left to hide.
A century earlier, the house on Foster Hill holds nothing but painful memories for Ivy Thorpe. When an unidentified woman is found dead on the property, Ivy is compelled to discover her identity. Ivy’s search leads her into dangerous waters and, even as she works together with a man from her past, can she unravel the mystery before any other lives–including her own–are lost?

~ First Line ~

Death had a way of creeping up on a soul, and Ivy Thorpe was determined that when it visited her, she would not be surprised.

Isn’t that first line delicious?

  1. I’m not a gothic fan, but if I was, that line would certainly have me checking out that book. 🙂
My first line is from Then Came You by Becky Wade.
    Sylvie left me today.

  2. This is a great book! Today on my blog I’m sharing the first line from Liz Curtis Higg’s “A Wreath of Snow”. A Christmas favorite of mine! Last evening I started reading Lucette Nel’s book “A Match of Sorts”. I’m really enjoying this one also! Here is the first line: “She changed her mind.”

  3. That’s definitely an intriguing first line. I’m featuring At Your Request by Jen Turano on my blog. Here I will share the first line from The Boy and the Clock by A. Lynn Bassett. This is a children’s book. “Tick-tock, tick-tock. Only three minutes stood between Charlie Higgins and the best summer ever!”

    I love this story! 🙂
It was days like this, when the sun bounced off Lake Superior with an eye-squinting brilliance, that Bree Nicholls forgot all her qualms about living where the Snow King ruled nine months of the year. – Without a Trace by Colleen Coble

  5. Eeeep! I’m so nervous about reading this book (says the big scaredy cat) Here’s the first line of my current read, Too Far Down by Mary Connealy:
    Skull Gulch, New Mexico Territory
    February 1881
An explosion brought Cole Boden to his feet.

  6. Can’t wait to read this book! I just bought it.
Today on my blog, I am sharing the first line from My Heart Belongs in Niagara Falls, New York: Adele’s Journey. I am currently on chapter 14, so I will share the first three lines from that chapter here.
“‘Are you busy?’ Adele looked up from the book lying in her lap. Uncle Osbourne stood at the threshold of the library.”

  7. I had hoped to review this one, but I don’t think I made it. 😉 It looks intriguing though!!
I’m in-between [fiction] books at this very minute, so don’t have a first line of my current read. 😉 This week on my blog, though, I’m sharing about another adorable children’s book. 🙂 I think I’ve become addicted to those. 😉

  8. A fantastic book (as the first line hints at!)
The first line from the next book I’m reading is:
It was no surprise to me that I’d lost track of time.
from A Song of Home by Susie Finkbeiner
