Best of 2020 – Emoji Files Part I: The Swoony Awards (and Top Ten Tuesday)

Posted 29 December 2020 by Katie in Christian Fiction, Contemporary, Historical, Romance, Top Ten Tuesday / 10 Comments

Happy Tuesday, reader friends, and welcome to the final Top Ten Tuesday for 2020 thanks to That Artsy Reader Girl. As always, this week’s topic looks back at our favourite books for the year. I’m also kicking off my annual Emoji Files awards where I break down my favourite reads for the year into the following categories:

😍 The Swoony Awards  all the romance (le sigh!)
😢 Got Me In The Feels – the books that reached in and plucked my heartstrings
😲 The WOW Awards – suspense, thrills, high stakes, and surprises
❤️ Take Me Away . . . – fully immersive reads that took me to times and places far away
😆 The LOL Awards – from light-hearted to bust-a-gut humour

Today, I’ll be giving you my swoony favourites of 2020. Stay tuned over the next four days to get the rest of my 2020 highlights!

What makes a romance a swoony read for me? I love emotional connection between the hero and heroine—shared experiences, shared laughter, shared tears—and of course, genuine romantic tension springing from that emotional connection. I don’t want to be told about the characters’ developing feelings so much as I want the writing to make me FEEL them! And yes, Mimi Matthews may be a bit of a favourite… 😊

Always You by Jennifer Rodewald (read my review)
Reckless by Tamara Leigh (read my review)
On Wings of Devotion by Roseanna M. White (read my review)

The Winter Companion by Mimi Matthews (read my review)
Fair as a Star by Mimi Matthews (read my review)
Gentleman Jim by Mimi Matthews (read my review)

Love and a Little White Lie by Tammy L. Gray (read my review)
The Red Ribbon by Pepper Basham (read my review)
Some Bright Someday by Melissa Tagg (review to come)

What were your swooniest reads of 2020?

  1. I don’t usually read romance, because I need my books to be relatively clean to enjoy them. I mean, I don’t object to same-sex romances or the like but I don’t want to hear about the characters’ bed habits. That being said, I’ve heard there’s a lot of clean romance out there and I see your post is tagged Christian too. I”ll definitely check out some of these books.
