Happy Wednesday, word nerds! It’s been a while since I’ve had a Word Nerd post because I’ve had so many other things happen around here, but I’ve been waiting for the opportunity to share this week’s word since I read The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde a couple of weeks ago:
Troglodyte
What do you think it means?
(a) a hideously deformed person;
(b) a cave-dweller; a hermit;
(c) a petrified human skeleton;
(d) a type of volcanic rock.
No cheating with Google, mind you! Give it your best guess, and I’ll let you know the answer next week. 🙂
I thought this was the nasty creatures that live underground in the classic movie, The Time Machine with Rod Taylor (1960), but those are morlocks. Mmm. So, I think a troglodyte might be a cave dweller, but I really have no idea and I didn’t look it up! 🙂 Good word!
I’m going with A. I’ve heard the word several times, but I admit I don’t know the actual answer.
b). I did not Google it, but I have heard the word, and its definition. We visited something related to it once on a Holiday.
My son wrote a song called Caveman, and he had the word troglodyte in it so I’ll go with B.
