Today’s Word Nerd post is going to be a quick one, because I am up to my eyeballs in reviews! It’s another round of “What do you think it means?” with some Aussie slang: budgie smugglers.
All I’m going to tell you is that it’s a noun. So, what do you think Australians are referring to when we get out the budgie smugglers? If you already know what it refers to, perhaps you could get creative and make up an alternative name—without giving away the answer!
As always, I’ll have the answer for you next week. Until then, happy reading!
Oh my word! My husband forgot his budgie smuggler!!!
That could be awkward!
🙂
I’m up to my eyeballs in books to read and review, too. Yet, here I sit, reading and commenting on other blogs, sigh. (I need a break!! So I tell myself, LOL.)
No idea what a budgie smuggler is, someone who smuggles budgies
Blessings~
We’re our own worst enemies sometimes, aren’t we? Have a great day!
Definitely! But there are so many wonderful books! I wish I could just absorb them by osmosis, LOL!
You have a great day, too!
Items that you couldn’t resist buying although they are outside your budget parameters, therefore, you have to smuggle them into the house so your husband doesn’t see them. I have “a friend” who does this. LOL
Lol! Say hi to your ‘friend’ for me! 😉
Will do! Hahaha!
I’m an Aussie so I’m not commenting other than to say your creative meaning is exceptionally good! And, I’d also have to admit to doing a bit of budgie smuggling like your ‘friend’ if that was the case 😉
Lynette, I decided my meaning was a llittle better than the real one! LOL
No clue! A person who steals cookies?
I guess you’ll find out next week 😉
Having lived in Melbourne, Australia, I remember that a “budgie” is a bird. John Williamson had a song about them.
It’s short for ‘budgerigar’. We Aussies tend to shorten any word we can! 😄
