It’s time for another Top Ten Tuesday, brought to you thanks to the girls at The Broke and the Bookish. I’m very pleased to say that I’ve had much better success this week, by which I mean my Top Ten has only expanded by two, and I’m only a day late posting! If at first you don’t succeed…
One of the greatest ironies about being a book blogger is that you blog because you love books so much, and you want to share that love; but blogging actually means you have LESS TIME TO READ BOOKS! *Sigh* There are also more books than ever being added to your TBR mountain, because you’re constantly hearing about all the great books everyone else is reading. Needless to say, there are plenty of books that could have made it to this list, but… I had to stop somewhere!
So, without further ado, here is my list of Top Ten (or so) 2016 Releases I Totally Meant To Read, But Didn’t Get Around To. (They are still on my TBR pile, so look out for them in 2017!):
The Lady and the Lionheart – Joanne Bischof
I have read sooooooo many good reviews of this novel, and I’ve read enough of Joanne Bischof to know I will probably consider them all totally warranted once I have read it myself.
Told You Twice – Kristen Heitzmann
I love Kristen Heitzmann’s books, and I’ve even read the first book in this series, Told You So. Anyone who’s met Bo couldn’t help wanting to read his story, so I can’t believe I haven’t gotten around to reading it yet!
Of Stillness and Of Storm – Michèle Phoenix
This one only released recently, but I’ve read a lot of conflicting reviews about it already; the kind of conflicting reviews that make me want to read it for myself. But I might save it for a time when I can allow myself the emotional space to process it.
The Cautious Maiden – Dawn Crandall
I haven’t read any of Dawn Crandall’s novels yet, but let me tell you, I’ve heard a lot about this one and its hero, Vance Everstone. This novel is the fourth in the series, so I will probably go back and start at the beginning. I guess that technically adds four books to my TBR mountain…
Another Day, Another Dali – Sandra Orchard
I read the first in this series last year, and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Not because I was expecting not to enjoy it, but because I enjoyed it for completely different reasons than I thought I would. Firstly, it’s art fraud, so it’s different to your standard FBI setting. But secondly, there was a light-hearted element I wasn’t expecting and some great, and sometimes quirky, characters.
Giver of Wonders – Roseanna M. White
I love Roseanna’s novels, and this story really piqued my interest, but it came out at the end of the year when I found myself a little, er… stretched for time. I’m really hoping it won’t be next Christmas before I get around to reading this one.
For the Record – Regina Jennings
I only recently read the first in this series, A Most Inconvenient Marriage, which was also the first full-length story I’ve read by Regina Jennings. Betsy was an imp of a girl in that novel, so I’m looking forward to reading about her all grown up!
I haven’t read anything by Serena Chase before, but this one got some great reviews when it came out. So many that I decided I HAVE to read it for myself. And I WILL read it for myself. Very soon! Plus… it’s music. ❤️🎶
The End of the World – Amy Matayo
Yet another book that released (much earlier in 2016) to rave reviews. I mean, this quote from author Nicole Deese says it all: “The powerful journey of finding your soulmate in the dark…and loving them enough to lead them into the light.” That’s my kind of book!
I loved Sally’s debut novel, Kept, so when I heard she was releasing a new series I was very excited! And yet, I still haven’t gotten around to reading this one… 😞
Historical fiction – the kind that deals with real people from history – is one of my first loves, and I’m really looking forward to reading John Newton’s story.
An intriguing cover, an intriguing description, and more rave reviews. I’m sold! And yet… Well, you know the story. Or, should I say, my story? Anyway, it WILL get read!
And now for the big question: Which one do you think I should start with?
Happy reading 🙂
The struggle is real. Book blogger hug!
I would recommend starting with The Lady and the LionHeart and Newton and Polly. I can’t pick just one and the stress of limiting myself to 10 anything every week but I enjoy reading posts from Carrie and now you too!
I know you know my pain! We can support each other 😄
And I was thinking maybe Newton & Polly myself. Especially since it’s in my review pile 😳
Good call! 😉
I loved The Lady & the Lion Heart and Giver of Wonders! I haven’t made it to the other ones yet either 🙁
Well, that’s still two ahead of me. That has to be a positive, right? 🙂
Yeah, I guess 🙂 I’m sure you’ve read more than me with books in general this year, ha!
Oooh! Excited to see Intermission on your list! Lots of good ones there, a few I’ve read and can highly recommend. 🙂 Others I haven’t yet heard of, but will now investigate. Thanks!
Oh, wow, my friend! What a choice. I’ve read The Cautious Maiden, Giver of Wonders, The End of the World, and For the Record and enjoyed the all. It might depend on what mood you’re in. I loved The End of the World, but it’s a little darker. Read it between a couple of lighter ones. For the Record really tickled my funnybone. Giver of Wonders is a good one for around Christmas but can be read at other times. I have several of the others on my Read Soon list. I already have the books The Lady and the Lionheart, Newton and Polly, and Homestands sitting here taunting me, and I love Kristen Heitzmann’s books. I definitely need to get that one. You have so many awesome choices. Good luck! Let me know how you like them.
You should become a TBR consultant, Winnie! Lol! But you’re right about waiting for the right mood for some of those. I’ll let you know how I go!
LOL I just happened to have read some of them. I need to get to some of the others soon, if i could just get some of my favorite authors to slow down on writing a bit, so I can get caught up! JK, of course.
I can identify with this post too: several books I would have liked to read last year but didn’t get around to.
I REALLY mean to read Oswui: King of Kings by Edoardo Albert this year, and hopefully The King’s Hand by Anna Thayer, both upwards of 500 pages. Oh, and anther epic fantasy, King’s Folly by Jill Williamson, about the only Bethany House book from Netgalley last year I did not manage to read.
It’s a struggle to fit them all in, isn’t it?!
Same here with the Unblemished book. Haven’t gotten around to it. Lol
*sigh* yep…
