Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday! If you've visited my site before, you may have noticed it looks a bit . . . different than it used to. That's because I've moved! I'm now at a brand new site (www.fictionaficionado.com) and this is my first official post from my new home. Exciting times!
This week’s topic from That Artsy Reader Girl is New-To-Me Authors I Read in 2018. I actually read quite a few new-to-me authors last year, some of whom were also new-to-everyone authors! I also discovered several new-to-me general market authors (as opposed to CBA, or Christian market authors), in large part due to Rachel McMillan’s book gushing. When Rachel McMillan talks up a book, my ears and eyes definitely perk up! (As a heads up to my readers who prefer to read CBA titles, the general market authors in this post will have an asterisk* after their name.)
So, without further ado, here are my top ten new-to-me authors from 2018:
BRIA QUINLAN *
If you're looking for some great rom com, check this gal out, particularly her Brew Ha Ha series. Definitely one of my favourite finds of 2018!
MIMI MATTHEWS *
Victorian romances with a slightly Gothic flavour. Mm-mmmm!
DEANNA RAYBOURN *
Another Victorian setting, this time a mystery series with two of the most unique characters I've come across. And oh my goodness I want to write like Deanna Raybourn when I grow up!
NICOLE BAART *
This was contemporary women's fiction - a family drama that had little chills prickling my skin!
PATTI CALLAHAN
As soon as I knew this book was coming it was on my TBR, and it did not disappoint. A fictional biography of Joy Davidman, who eventually married C.S. Lewis. Very moving!
LISA McKAY
Wow, was this a good read. A teen missions trip that goes horribly awry. Suspenseful and thought-provoking. And extra shout-out for being an Australian author!
Kelly Goshorn
This was a new-to-me, new-to-everyone read featuring a heroine who doesn't quite measure up to society's vision of a perfect woman.
J'Nell Ciesielski
Another debut author for 2018, and another heroine who challenges society's ideas of what women should/shouldn't do. This heroine leaves behind her life as a chauffeur's daughter to join an all-female ambulance unit in France during WWI.
Lindsay A. Franklin
And now for something completely different! A fantasy series set in a world where storytellers weave cyrstallized sculptures with their words. The second in this series releases later this year and I can't wait!
Elizabeth Byler Younts
A wonderful literary fiction read set in 1950s Pennsylvania as two very different women forge a tentative friendship through their grief, doubt, and heartache.
I’ve heard a lot of good things about Mimi Matthews’ books.
This is my Top Ten Tuesday post.
She’s a new ‘must read’ author for me 🙂
I read Among The Poppies and Solace of Water. Loved Among the Poppies!
Both great reads! 🙂
A lot of these authors are new to me, too, and I’m intrigued! Especially by Mimi Matthews’ books. You’ve definitely sold me on her! That being said, great picks–I’m glad you had some enjoyable new-to-you authors last year and hope this year is just as successful!
