G’day, booklovers! This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic from That Artsy Reader Girl is technically Books to Pull You Out of a Reading Slump. To be honest, I don’t have a lot of experience with reading slumps. 😊 Bookhangovers? Yes. But that’s not quite the same thing…

However, I have experience emotional burnout at the hands of books—especially if I’ve read several really emotional books in a row. So my list today is going to be a selection of light-hearted reads that will get you smiling (or even laughing), get the endorphins flowing again, and leave you feeling refreshed and ready to tackle your TBR once more!

Novellas

Short and sweet, these are some of my favourite novellas for putting a smile on my dial in a short space of time. (Click on the covers for more details).

Bookishly Ever After by Sarah Monzon
The Cupcake Dilemma by Jennifer Rodewald
Mowed Over by Christina Coryell
Three Little Words by Melissa Tagg

Novels

If you need a more serious dose of levity (ha!) then check out these novels:

Turtles in the Road by Rhonda and Kaley Rhea (SERIOUS laughter will ensue)
Save the Date by Jenny B. Jones
A New Shade of Summer by Nicole Deese
Then There Was You by Kara Isaac
Worth the Fall by Bria Quinlan
The Secret of Life of Sarah Hollenbeck by Bethany Turner
A Twist of Faith by Pepper Basham

Which books do you reach for when you need a light-hearted read?

I had tears running down my face while reading The Secret of Life of Sarah Hollenbeck because I was laughing so hard. Jen Turano and Mary Connealy usually can always make me laugh out loud in any of their books.

Awesome list! And if you’re looking for fun historicals, try Jen Turano and Kristi Ann Hunter. I laughed soooo much while I was reading Jen’s newest book, Caught by Surprise. We have similar senses of humor. It was such fun to meet her at CFRR last year. We had a couple of meals together and it was great fun!
