Top Ten Tuesday – Books That Remind Me of Myself

Posted 7 May 2019 by Katie in Christian Fiction, Top Ten Tuesday / 5 Comments

Happy Tuesday, book lovers! It’s time for another Top Ten Tuesday, and this week’s topic from That Artsy Reader Girl is Books That Remind Me of Myself. There were a few titles that I immediately thought of, but it was an interesting challenge to go through my Goodreads list and think about which books to include. I have a feeling some of these may have been included in a previous list somewhere for a similar reason, but I can’t remember, and if I can’t remember, I figure you won’t either! Enjoy!

WHATEVER TOMORROW BRINGS (Lori Wick)

The main character in this book is named Kaitlin Donovan. For those of you who don’t know, my name is Katie Donovan. I read this as a teenager (when my last name WASN’T Donovan) and fell in love with this character. I wanted to be this character. (I can’t remember why.) I guess getting her name was as close as I could get!

MY STUBBORN HEART (Becky Wade)

Another Kate Donovan as the main character. Who knew my married name would be so popular?

A HOLIDAY BY GASLIGHT (Mimi Matthews)

This one is all about a quote. The hero describes his feelings when he first meets the heroine thus: “It hadn’t been love at first sight. That was too trite. Too simplistic. But something within him had recognised something in her. Had understood that she would be important to him.” It was like someone had reached into my life and defined exactly how I felt the first time I saw my husband. 💗

A HERO FOR MISS HATHERLEIGH (Carolyn Miller)

These books seem to be coming in pairs today, because here’s another one with a quote that reminds me of when I first met my husband: “He couldn’t help but feel like a connection deep and marvelous had suddenly wrenched into awareness, something he’d be forever helpless to ignore.” *sigh*

ROSE IN THREE QUARTER TIME (Rachel McMillan)

Before books and my children were my world, classical music was my world, albeit usually chorally/vocally rather than instrumentally. I had dreams once upon a time of becoming a world famous musician as either a pianist or a violinist, or even as a singer, but my other passions interfered with practise time. 🙃 And then my children superceded all other passions. But music is still a very big part of my life, especially classical music. I would die on the inside without it, so this book was Katie catnip.

CROSSED OUT (Christina Coryell)

I’m with this heroine. Don’t mess with my crossword. I also happen to be partial to a man with a beard. 😉

TRUE TO YOU (Becky Wade)

Like Nora, I’m a very bookish person, and like Nora, I’ve been accused of using big words before. I can still remember telling a boy in my class in primary school to “stop being so derogatory”, at which he looked at me and said, “What on earth does that mean? Why do you always use such big words?”

JILTED (Varina Denman)

No, I haven’t been jilted, but the character in this novel has suffered from major depression for some time, so parts of her story really resonated with me, particularly the way her thoughts and feelings were described in the book.

IMPERFECT JUSTICE (Cara C. Putman)

For quite a few years, my plan was to study law when I left school, and this book reminded me of many of the reasons why. I wanted to defend the innocent and see justice upheld, and I love the challenge of arguing a case. There are few things that fire my blood like a great cross-examination. Not that there’s much of that in this book, but it was just the kind of case I used to imagine taking on nevertheless.

THE RAILWAY CHILDREN (E. Nesbit)

My children’s father may not have been arrested, forcing us to move to the country, but my children could definitely challenge Roberta, Peter, and Phyllis for the right to this title. We live right opposite the local railway station and my kids will happily spend an hour or more over there watching the trains and waving to the drivers (some of whom actually recognise them now!).

Is there a book that reminds you of yourself?

Oh, The Railway Children is a good choice. I haven’t thought about that book in a very long time.

    My TTT.

  2. I see some familiar faces and some books I need to read! (I’m also loving your colored boxes, super cute!) I’ve finally jumped on the TTT bandwagon! Wondering how long it will be before I fall off, lol!

It seems that Nora from True to You reminds everyone of themselves today! I’ve seen her on every list! LOL I’m sure she’d be on my list, too, if I made one.
