The King’s Mercy (Lori Benton) – Review

When captured rebel Scotsman Alex MacKinnon is granted the king’s mercy–exile to the Colony of North Carolina–he’s indentured to Englishman Edmund Carey as a blacksmith. Against his will Alex is drawn into the struggles of Carey’s slaves–and those of his stepdaughter, Joanna Carey. A mistress with a servant’s heart, Joanna is expected to wed her father’s overseer, Phineas Reeves, but finds herself drawn instead to the new blacksmith.

Top Ten Tuesday – Memorable Mothers

Happy Tuesday, reader friends. I’ve gone rogue for Top Ten Tuesday today. This week’s topic with That Artsy Reader Girl is Books I disliked/hated but am really glad I read. I have a grant total of ONE book on that list: Vanity Fair. It probably could have been half of its 800+ pages and still told the same story (which was oddly unsatisfying in the end anyway), but I can say I stuck it out and made it to the end—for what it’s worth. But I’m not sure one book qualifies as a list, so I put my thinking cap on. And

Best of 2017 – The Emoji Files, Part I: The Swoony Awards

Happy New Year, reader friends! Welcome to the first part of my Best of 2017 series, which I’ve affectionately called ‘The Emoji Files’. When I sat down to try and do my ‘Best of 2017’ post, I ended in a completely bookish mess. I read 200 books in 2017, and since I’m pretty good at picking books I really enjoy, it gets difficult to narrow it down to a list of 10, or even 20. Then there’s the fact that I’m a pretty eclectic reader within the Christian fiction genre. I enjoy different books for different reasons, so it’s kind

Top Ten Tuesday – Books I Want For Christmas

Merry Christmas! Since this is the final Top Ten Tuesday post before Christmas, I thought I’d get in early. 😊 We’re going with a Christmas theme today, too, thanks to the girls at The Broke and the Bookish: Top Ten Books I Hope Santa Brings. Whenever someone asks me what I’d like for Christmas, I usually um… and ah… and then eventually come up with ‘An Amazon gift card never goes astray’. The trouble then, though, is the agonizing decision over which of the approximately 5,397 books on my TBR I will purchase with said gift card—mostly because, once I have my gift

This post is part of the Litfuse Publicity blog tour for Many Sparrows. ~ About the Book ~ Either she and her children would emerge from that wilderness together, or none of them would… In 1774, the Ohio-Kentucky frontier pulses with rising tension and brutal conflicts as Colonists push westward and encroach upon Native American territories. When Philip does not return and

The Weekend Book Buzz – 26/27 August 2017

Wha—? How is the end of August already?! The year is speeding by. And it’s been a busy week here, now that we all seem to have been restored to health and hubby’s back is mending nicely. Time to get some of those reviews done to make room for all the fabulous books still to come!

Top Ten Tuesday – Things That Will Make Me Want to Review A Book

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday! The girls at The Broke and the Bookish have had me going in circles this week as I tried to work out how I would approach this topic. For starters, I have an insatiable appetite for reading. If you say the word book, I’m interested! For me, it’s not a matter of looking for something to read so much as deciding which of the thousands of books on my TBR continent I’ll pick up next.

Best of 2016!

Well, you could be forgiven for thinking I have dropped off the face of the earth over Christmas.  I may live in Australia, but December definitely snowballed on me this year.  Please accept my belated wishes for a merry Christmas and a happy new year. 🎄🎉 Amidst all of the December busyness, I have been giving thought to my favourite reads over the year.  Let me tell you, it is a daunting business, coming up with a blog post about your favourite reads for the year.  For starters I read around 250 books this year 😳  Secondly, different books stick
