~ About the Book ~
When western Alaska erupts in a devastating fire, the elite firefighting crew of the Jude County Smokejumpers is called in to save the day. They’ll do anything to stop the fire, including fighting alongside a crew of local prisoners.
The last thing they expect is a jailbreak and when the prisoners disappear into the forest with one of their own, they’ll have to fight not only the fire, but for the freedom of their friends…during the Summer of the Burning Sky.
Book 3: Some Like It Hot
Riley McCord is trouble, from his blue eyes to his renegade smile—a cover for the grief of losing his father three years ago in Afghanistan, a loss that is still top secret. Riley masks it all by living large—working hard and playing hard, and that includes romancing Larke Kingston, local wilderness medic. When he’s sidelined while working the forest fire, he’s determined to rejoin his team, but to do so, he’ll have to accompany Larke into the wilderness when she is dispatched to a medical emergency. What he doesn’t realize is that trouble is waiting for him in the woods…
Medic Larke Kingston lost the man she loved during her service in Afghanistan and she’s not interested in a troublemaker, so Riley’s no threat to her heart. Just a short-term distraction. Until, that is, a wilderness medical mission puts her face-to-face with an escaped prisoner. Suddenly she needs Riley more than she wants to admit.
Riley is shocked when the escapee claims to have answers about his father’s death. However, before he can uncover them, the fire turns and is bearing down on Larke’s ranch, and his team. Now, only Riley and Larke stand between the flames and destruction of everything they both love. But will the price of saving the ranch—and the team—be greater than they both can bear?
In book 3, the epic Summer of the Burning Sky series comes to a blazing, shocking finale.

~ Excerpt ~
Riley leaned down to grab his PG bag when a hand covered his.
Larke.
He looked up.
She had been standing behind him—maybe that’s who Barry had been looking at. She had changed into a pair of jeans, a jacket, baseball cap, and shades. He would have liked to have seen her eyes.
“So…” She made to reach out, as if to touch his chest, his thundering heart, then pulled back her hand. “Just—stay alive, okay?”
A smile tipped his lips and…ah, shoot. He leaned down—
She stepped back. Her mouth in a tight line. “No. I just…” She shook her head. “Last night was then. Today, I’m just saying don’t get hurt. Come back in one piece.”
Okay. Huh. But, “Sweetheart. I’m indestructible.”
“Right.” She crossed her arms. Glanced at his shoulder. Yeah, well, he’d popped enough pain relievers to keep him going for the next eight hours, maybe more.
“Trust me. I’m coming back. Alive.”
“Good.” She turned, but he caught her arm.
“When I do, I want that kiss.”
She raised an eyebrow, caught her lip between her teeth. “We’ll see.”
Oh, great balls of fire, he was so coming back, alive.
~ Review ~
Yowser! What a way to finish the series! I’ve decided I definitely like it hot. 😉
During the previous book in this series, I developed a crush on Rio. Call me fickle, but I was about half a page into this book and it was ‘Hel-looooo, Riley!’ I am such a sucker for a damaged hero, especially a flirty one, and Riley fits that description to a T. And although she tries really hard not to be, it seems Larke is a sucker for one too. Although, in the end, sucker isn’t really the right word for it because, in spite of the short time-frame for the story, we see ample proof of the way these two are compatible in a deeper way than mere physical attraction.
I highly recommend starting at the beginning of this series, as the books overlap as well as telling a progressive story. While there is a bit of repetition at the beginning, there’s also a lot that you miss if you pick this up without reading the first two in the series. This story starts in the same place as the other two, but there’s less crossover since Riley and Larke remain behind after the convicts escape. For them, the struggle is much more personal. Riley has grown up in the shadow of his superhero soldier father, Master Chief McCord, believing he’s simply reckless, not one of the good guys like his father. He loves anything that’s hot and dangerous. Runs towards it. And Larke’s already lost one man she loved because he never hesitated to put himself in harm’s way. One needs to learn that perhaps God made him the way he is for a reason, and the other—well, maybe she needs someone who’s not afraid to follow her into the fire.
The pace never lets up as they struggle to contain the fire eating up the Alaskan wilderness and deal with their roiling emotions at the same time. The flirting. The romance. And that ending! Yowser!! Again!! I think I forgot to breathe there for a while… And best of all, there are hints of more stories to come. Oh, let it be so!
I received a copy of this book from the author. This has not influenced the content of my review, which is my honest and unbiased opinion.

~ About the Author ~
Growing up in Minneapolis and attending the U of MN, I learned to love city life, although I’m a woodsy girl at heart. Or maybe I’m an adventurer — having lived and traveled all over the world, including Siberia Russia as a missionary for eight years. Probably that’s why my characters can’t sit still, and seem to get into one scrape after another — they’re too much like me! I love God, my family, my country, my church, and feel privileged every day to be able to write stories.
