First Line Friday – Underestimating Miss Cecilia (Carolyn Miller)

Happy Friday, book lovers, and welcome to First Line Friday hosted by Hoarding Books. I had the pleasure of catching up with Australian author Carolyn Miller in person this week—a double blessing for me, since I now have a copy of her upcoming release Underestimating Miss Cecilia! I’m looking forward to diving into this one very soon, but in the meantime, I’m sharing the first line with you today. Keep an eye out for its release on
23 July!

About the Book

Shy, sweet Cecilia Hatherleigh has always been in love with Edward Amherst, the boy next door. Yet he’s never seen her as anything but the quiet girl in the background as he flirts with the other vivacious women of the ton.

When a near tragedy brings Edward’s attention to his family duties, this prodigal son decides he needs to settle down with a proper wife. Cecilia hopes to convince him to choose her—but God may want her to forget the wayward nobleman and put her future in His hands alone.

These two try to find their way toward happiness, but prejudice, political riots, and the changing face of England’s societal structures begin to block them at every turn. Can their struggles turn to triumph—or will their paths permanently diverge?

    • Happy Friday!

Today on my blog I’m sharing the first couple of lines from No Greater Love by Gina Holder. It’s a really good book! I’m currently on chapter 25, so I’ll share the first line from there.

“If his sister fluffed his pillow one more time, Hamilton was going to lose his last shred of sanity.”

Hope you have an excellent weekend. 😀❤📚

  1. Today on my blog I’m featuring the first line from No Greater Love by Gina Holder but It’s also my current read so I’ll share the first line from chapter 15 here: “Kathleen tucked her legs under the steering wheel of her rental.” Hope you have a great weekend with lots of reading time!

  2. Just started to dig into Miss Cecy

My first line is from The Express Bride by Kim Woodhouse:
    Prologue:
    St. Louis, March 1834
With shaking limbs, she climbed into the plush carriage awaiting her, the precious bundle in her arms worth far more than the money, trinkets and trunks of clothing she left behind.
Wonderful book. Check out the whole series of The Daughters of the Mayflower.

Happy Friday! My first line is from “Edge of Truth” by Kimberly Rose Johnson:

“The hair on Kara Nelson’s neck prickled as she sat behind the wheel of her car parked near the Miami Beach Marina. Something wasn’t right.”

  4. Happy Friday! I’m sharing from The Crossing at Cypress Creek by Pam Hillman on my blog today. I’m only a few pages in, and this is my favorite line so far:

“Her stomach did a slow roll at the unexpected lilt of an Irish brogue.”

  5. Lucky you, Katie! I love Carolyn’s books. 🙂

Today I’m sharing on my blog the first line from The Art of Rivers by Janet W. Ferguson.

Love, like art, took on different forms with each creator.
