Happy Friday, book lovers, and welcome to First Line Friday hosted by Hoarding Books. I’m deeply immersed in the first book of Roseanna M. White’s new series The Codebreakers even as I write this post. In fact, it’s open right beside me, and I keep getting distracted by wanting to keep reading. Lol! It is, of course, The Number of Love, and I am absolutely loving the unique way Drake has set out to win Margot De Wilde. It releases this coming Tuesday, 4 June. Who else loved starting a new series from a favourite author?
About the Book
Three years into the Great War, England’s greatest asset is their intelligence network–field agents risking their lives to gather information, and codebreakers able to crack every German telegram. Margot De Wilde thrives in the environment of the secretive Room 40, where she spends her days deciphering intercepted messages. But when her world is turned upside down by an unexpected loss, for the first time in her life numbers aren’t enough.
Drake Elton returns wounded from the field, followed by an enemy who just won’t give up. He’s smitten quickly by the intelligent Margot, but how can he convince a girl who lives entirely in her mind that sometimes life’s answers lie in the heart?
Amid biological warfare, encrypted letters, and a German spy who wants to destroy not just them but others they love, Margot and Drake will have to work together to save themselves from the very secrets that brought them together.

Love this first line!
Over on my blog, I’m sharing the first line from A Reluctant Bride by Jody Hedlund. Here I’ll share with you the first line from chapter 4 of the same book.
“Mercy stood in the long line of tenants waiting for a turn at the water spigot at the back of the building.”
There is no greater feeling than when a favorite author starts a new series!!!
Happy Friday!
Today on my blog I am sharing the first line from Summer by the Tides by Denise Hunter: https://christianfictiongirl.blog/2019/05/30/first-line-friday-89/. I am currently on chapter 4, so I will share a line from there.
“The sun was almost overhead by the time Connor has a moment to breathe.”
Hope you have a great weekend. Happy reading! ๐ค๐๐
I understand the distraction of wanting to keep reading! Happy reading Katie!
Yay, yay, yay! I can’t wait to read The Number of Love! I’m currently reading The Reluctant Guardian by Susanne Dietze… “With a furtive pat, Gemma Lyfeld blotted her nerve-damp palms on her white muslin gown.”
I’ll be reading this one very soon ๐
Today on my blog I featured A Reluctant Bride by Jody Hedlund which I just finished last night. My next read is going to be Where Hope Begins by Catherine West so I’ll share that first line here: “My husband is leaving me.” I think I’m in for an intense read! Hope you have a wonderful weekend with some quality reading time ๐
Happy Friday! I’m sharing from Kelly Irvin’s Through the Autumn Air on my blog today. Here is the second sentence:
“Mary Katherine Ropp stood motionless in the middle of her kitchen, a platter holding a two-layer German chocolate cake covered in whipped cream cheese frosting nestled in her hands.”
I really like that first line! And this from someone who hates numbers. Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend!
Happy Weekend! My first line is from “When Love Blossoms: Book 2 of the Kindred Lake Series” by Elaine Stock:
“Kierra Madden grasped the phone tighter in both disbelief and gratitude.”
The Number of Love is on my TBR stack and I’m excited to read it soon! Today I’m sharing the first lines from Wooing Cadie McCaffrey by Bethany Turner: “Four years ago, on my thirtieth birthday, I had two very important realizations.”
