Happy Friday, book lovers, and welcome to First Line Friday hosted by Hoarding Books. My first line Friday selection for this week also happens to be my book club selection. (Yes, I’m racing to finish before we meet tonight via Zoom 😂). Anyone else in a book club that’s had to switch to online meet ups?
Anyway, we’re currently reading The Gryphon Heist by James R. Hannibal, and I have to say I’m really enjoying it, particularly the dry humour that’s laced through what is otherwise a pretty intense read. Perfect balance for me! Have you read The Gryphon Heist? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
About the Book
Talia Inger is a rookie CIA case officer assigned not to the Moscow desk as she had hoped but to the forgotten backwaters of Eastern Europe–a department only known as “Other.” When she is tasked with helping a young, charming Moldovan executive secure his designs for a revolutionary defense technology, she figures she’ll be back in DC within a few days. But that’s before she knows where the designs are stored–and who’s after them. With her shady civilian partner, Adam Tyler, Talia takes a deep dive into a world where only criminal minds and unlikely strategies will keep the Gryphon, a high-altitude data vault, hovering in the mesosphere.
Even Tyler is more than he seems, and Talia begins to wonder: Is he helping her? Or using her access to CIA resources to pull off an epic heist for his own dark purposes?
In this Ocean’s Eleven-meets-Mission Impossible thriller, former tactical deception officer and stealth pilot James R. Hannibal offers you a nonstop thrill ride through the most daring heist ever conceived.
First Line
I’d love it if you’d share the first line of whatever you’re currently reading in the comments. And don’t forget, you can find out what other bloggers are sharing for First Line Friday by going over to Hoarding Books blog and finding all the links. If you’ve got your own blog, why not join in and add your link over there. 🙂
I really enjoyed The Gryphon Heist, and the sequel, Chasing the White Lion! 🙂
Today on my blog I’m sharing the first line of Being Known by Robin Jones Gunn. Right now I’m reading Dead End by Nancy Mehl, so I’ll share the first line here: “Norman Webber offered his wife a tight smile as he dealt with yet another one of her awful presents.”
Have a great weekend, and happy reading!
Have fun at your virtual book club tonight!! Happy Friday!
Happy Friday! My first line is from “The Vanishing of Olivia Beck” by Sara L. Foust:
“Olivia Beck pulled her gaze from the rearview mirror for the tenth time in as many minutes. She would not cry.”
Happy Friday!
That’s awesome that your book club is finding ways to meet virtually 🙂
On my blog this week, I’m sharing the first line from Lindsay Harrel’s The Joy of Falling:

Hope you have a great weekend 🙂
Happy Friday! Today, I’m sharing the first line from Desert Willow by Patricia Beal: “Clara Malone sat alone in the airport, her grandmother’s labored request rushing through her mind.”

Hope you have a great weekend!
I’m doing Before I Called You Mine by Nicole Deese. I’ll use the first line from Chapter 15:
Like a grouping of cancerous cells, my family’s cynicism had slithered into my subconscious and infected my thoughts with their poison.
