Happy Friday, book lovers, and welcome to First Line Friday hosted by Hoarding Books. I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m in need of some light reading fare at the moment. Life is B.U.S.Y! And I’ve been hearing great things about Melissa Ferguson’s debut release, The Dating Charade, so guess what’s next on my TBR?
About the Book
Just when you think you’ve met your match . . . the charade begins.
Cassie Everson is an expert at escaping bad first dates. And, after years of meeting, greeting, and running from the men who try to woo her, Cassie is almost ready to retire her hopes for a husband—and children—altogether.
But fate has other plans, and Cassie’s online dating profile catches the eye of firefighter Jett Bentley. In Jett’s memory, Cassie Everson is the unreachable girl-of-legend from their high school days. Nervously, he messages her, setting off a chain of events that forces a reluctant Cassie back into the dating game.
No one is more surprised than Cassie when her first date with Jett is a knockout. But when they both go home and find three children dropped in their laps—each—they independently decide to do the right and mature thing: hide the kids from each other while sorting it all out. What could go wrong?
Melissa Ferguson’s hilarious and warmhearted debut reminds us that love can come in very small packages—and that sometimes our best-laid plans aren’t nearly as rewarding and fun as the surprises that come our way.
First Line
I’d love it if you’d share the first line of whatever you’re currently reading in the comments. And don’t forget, you can find out what other bloggers are sharing for First Line Friday by going over to Hoarding Books blog and finding all the links. If you’ve got your own blog, why not join in and add your link over there. 🙂
I loved The Dating Charade! 🙂 Today I’m sharing from Seconds to Live by Susan Sleeman on my blog. I’m currently reading Once Upon a Christmas; here’s the first line from the third novella in the collection, A Snow White Christmas by Toni Shiloh: “‘I love you, Mara, not Amala.’ Warmth drained from Amala’s face as she fell back against the wall, cutting off her view of the two people who were supposed to love her.”
Happy weekend and happy reading!
I shared Echoes among The Stones by Jaime Jo Wright on my blog. Here I will share a book near the top of my TBR — Seconds to Live by Susan Sleeman. “One mistake. That was all it took to put Dustee’s life on the line — death right on her heels.”
Have a wonderful weekend!
This one sounds delightful! I’m tempted to add it to my long TBR list. On my blog, I’m sharing a Regency Romance Christmas novel: A Rule for Christmas by Kate Harper. Here I’ll share the first line in Chapter 3 of that same book. “Jemima was prepared to allow that her interview with Lord Rule could have gone better than it did.”
Happy Friday!
Today on my blog I’m sharing the first two lines from The Earl’s Betrothal by Karen Tuft. This book is SO good. If you love Regency I highly recommend this story. I’m currently on chapter 10, so I’ll share from there:
“Amelia slept until noon, so exhausted she was from the events of the day and night before.”
Hope you have a great weekend! 🙂❤📖
Happy Friday! I loved The Dating Charade!
Today I’m sharing the first lines from Courage to See: Daily Inspiration from Great Literature by Greg Garrett and Sabrina Fountain: “When I was a child, I wanted to sleep with my books, something my mom wouldn’t allow because I slept on the top bunk, and she didn’t want them falling down and hitting my sister.”

The Dating Charade was a great book! It will definitely make you laugh at times but I also wouldn’t call it “light.” The romance is comedic but they deal with some pretty tough emotional stuff with the kids.
This week on my blog I shared the first lines from the novella collection Sew in Love but I’m currently reading Seconds to Live. I’ll share the first line from chapter 3 here: “In a warm robe, her fingers pink and wrinkled from the hour spent in the tub, Taylor grabbed her phone and studied the missed call.” Hope you have a great weekend!
My first line is from the debut novel Above the Fold by Rachel Scott McDaniel.

Soot-stained windows filtered the morning light, casting an ashen shadow on the crowded courtroom and darkening the sting of judgment.
