Happy Friday, book lovers, and welcome to First Line Friday hosted by Hoarding Books. If you don’t know how much I love Tamara Leigh’s medieval romances, then you haven’t been hanging around here long enough. Lol! HEARTLESS, Book four in her Age of Conquest series, released a little over a week ago, and I’m taking the opportunity to read it for the second time! Some of you may remember I received a very special early copy when Tamara visited Australia earlier this year (back when we were actually allowed to travel!), but I now have a Kindle copy as well so that I can highlight all my favourite parts. ❤️️ Anyone else have their favourite books in more than one format?

About the Book

THE WULFRITHS. IT ALL BEGAN WITH A WOMAN

A battle. A crown. The conqueror. The conquered. Medieval England—forever changed by the Battle of Hastings. And the rise of the formidable Wulfriths.

A HEARTLESS NORMAN

Chevalier Maël D’Argent lost more than his striking looks when he aided the Duke of Normandy in taking the English throne from King Harold. As much by his own actions at the Battle of Hastings as those of the enemy, he lost his sire and his honor in breaking faith with his family. Believing himself unworthy of forgiveness, his ruined face the least due him, Maël now serves a ruthless man bent on subduing Saxons resistant to Norman rule. But when his mission to safeguard King William’s dignity leads to the rescue of a curiously familiar Saxon woman who causes the empty place inside him to strain its seams, he discovers he may not be as heartless as the one he serves—nor resistant to the wiles of one he ought to count an enemy.

A FALSE ABBESS

In the guise of Abbess Mary Sarah, the illegitimate Mercia has served the Saxon resistance for years in anticipation of learning who sired her. At last ordered to cast off the habit and veil, Mercia is told that revelation of her parentage hinges on acceptance of another role that could see her sacrificed by the noble family who refuses to acknowledge her. When she resists and is abducted by Saxon allies, her savior proves the scarred Norman warrior who spared her following the great battle. Once more, something sorrowfully empty in Sir Maël makes her long to fill his emptiness with what little she possesses, even if his captivity renders it impossible for him to forgive one as deceptive as she. Even if she never discovers who she is…

I’m not so patiently awaiting “Heartless” to arrive at my home sometime this weekend. Until then, Mrs. Kendig is keeping my hands happily holding (read: GRIPPING!) “Kings Falling”. I think you’ve already posted the first line of the book, so I’ll do the first line of the chapter I’m currently on: He was a Navy SEAL.

    Happy Friday!

Heartless sounds like an amazing story, and I’m definitely going to have to check out this series.

On my blog today, I’m sharing the first line from Stay With Me by Becky Wade:

“The hallway floor jolts downward beneath my feet, throwing me off balance.”

    Have a great weekend 🙂

    • Happy Friday! 🙂
Today on my blog I’m sharing the first line from Unveiling the Past by Kim Vogel Sawyer. I’m currently reading Masquerade at Middlecrest Abbey by Abigail Wilson. It’s awesome!!! I’ll share a line from chapter 3 here.
“As with so many previous events in my life, my marriage proved the complete opposite of my dreams.”
Isn’t that a fantastic line? The novel is filled with lines like this. So good!
      Have a great weekend! 🙂💚📚

My first line is from a WWII book by Anne Greene: Angel With Steel Wings:
December 1943- Camp Davis, North Carolina
“Bad weather. Bad plane. Bad day. And I have a bad feeling.”

  4. Happy Friday!
Today on my blog I shared the first line from Hadley Beckett’s Next Dish by Bethany Turner, but it’s also my current read so I’ll share the first line from where I’m at right now (chapter 18) here: “What was I thinking? What was I thinking? What was I thinking?” I’m loving the witty humor all throughout this one.
    Happy reading!
