Happy Friday, book lovers, and welcome to First Line Friday hosted by Hoarding Books. My medieval-loving heart has been sated once again this week with the release of the second book in Tamara Leigh’s Age of Conquest series: Fearless. I LOVE eleventh and twelfth century English history and await each of Tamara’s new releases with bated breath, so how could I not share the first line with you today?
About the Book
THE WULFRITHS. IT ALL BEGAN WITH A WOMAN.
A battle. A crown. The conqueror. The conquered. Medieval England—forever changed by the Battle of Hastings. And the rise of the formidable Wulfriths.
A CAPTIVE NORMAN
Sir Guarin D’Argent knew the danger of allowing a woman to turn him from his purpose, and yet he answered her cry across a bloody battlefield. Now he finds himself the lady’s captive among vengeful Saxons, weeks becoming months while his liege, Duke William of Normandy, subdues his new English subjects. Biding his time, Guarin plots an escape dependent on captivating his captor, a formidable quest with one more a warrior than a lady. But when his compassion is roused by the suffering of her people under Norman rule, the question of escape is jeopardized by the answer to who, exactly, is captivated—and in a conquered country, what hope there is for enemies beyond a kiss.
A DEFIANT SAXON
Her husband and young son slain by invaders, Lady Hawisa lives only for protecting her people. And revenge. While outwardly bending the knee to the usurper, she amasses rebels to send the conquerors back across the sea, along with the silver-haired warrior she never intended to take captive. Now that Guarin D’Argent has cause to wreak vengeance of his own and knows his captor is a Wulfrith, she dare not release him—just as she dare not succumb to his efforts to turn her from her purpose. But all changes when she is betrayed by one of her own. Will the struggle between the English resistance and the Normans find the two on opposite sides of the battlefield? Or might the Lord have other plans for them?
From a fateful encounter on the battlefield of Hastings, to a rebel camp deep in the wood, to the threshold of the Harrying of the North, Sir Guarin and Lady Hawisa’s tale unfolds in the second book in the AGE OF CONQUEST series that reveals the origins of the Wulfriths of the bestselling AGE OF FAITH series. Watch for NAMELESS: Book Three releasing Autumn 2019.

Great first line. I have got to read her books!
Need this book in hand NOW!!! Inhaled and loved Merciless and am ready to get back to these Normans and Saxons. Until then, I’m currently reading “Justice Delivered” by Patricia Bradley:
Jasmine eased out of her cell-like room and down the dimly lit hallway.
It’s another great read, Amy! My review will be up very soon. 🙂
Over on my blog I’m sharing the first line from Amber Lynn Perry’s new book, Upon My Heart Forever. Here I’ll share with you the first line from Chapter 9 of the same book.
“The edges of her carefully constructed barrier sloughed away, despite her misgivings.”
I’m thinking Henry XIII or perhaps the Knights of the Rounds Table, which I know are totally different time periods. 🙂 Happy reading Katie!
Happy Friday!

“I should do something more to make today feel festive — more Christmassy. But turning Spotify to holiday music would have to do.”
Hope you have a great weekend. Happy reading! 😊❤️📖
My first few lines are from The Noble Guardian by Michelle Griep. I just finished this fabulous book!
Southampton, England 1815
Was it wicked to say goodbye with a smile? Wrong to feel happy about leaving one’s family behind? Surely only a sinner’s heart would harbor such uncharitable emotions…wouldn’t it?
I’m sharing from Ladies of Intrigue, a collection of three novellas by Michelle Griep. Here’s the first line of the third novella, A House of Secrets:
“He’s late. Are you worried?”
Happy Friday and happy reading!
I need to try out some of Tamara Leigh’s books. This sounds so good to me! Today I’m sharing the first line from Never Let Go by Elizabeth Goddard.
“Nursing scrubs? Check. White snearkers? Check. Keycard? Check.”
