Welcome to First Line Friday, hosted by Hoarding Books! I have a special selection for you this Good Friday—a book that takes us all the way back to the event that foreshadowed Christ’s death and resurrection: Counted With the Stars, by Connilyn Cossette.
In 1 Corinthians 5:7, Paul described Christ as the Passover lamb who had been sacrificed for us, but to understand that reference, you need to understand the festival of Passover celebrated each year by the Jewish people—a festival that was first celebrated on the eve of the Hebrew exodus from Egypt. Counted With the Stars is one of my favourite fictional accounts of the exodus, partly because we experience it all from the perspective of a young Egyptian girl who knows nothing of the God of Israel, and partly because Connilyn Cossette is such a fantastic writer. If you haven’t read any of her books, you really should!
~ About the Book ~
Sold into slavery by her father and forsaken by the man she was supposed to marry, young Egyptian Kiya must serve a mistress who takes pleasure in her humiliation. When terrifying plagues strike Egypt, Kiya is in the middle of it all.
To save her older brother and escape the bonds of slavery, Kiya flees with the Hebrews during the Great Exodus. She finds herself utterly dependent on a fearsome God she’s only just beginning to learn about, and in love with a man who despises her people. With everything she’s ever known swept away, will Kiya turn back toward Egypt or surrender her life and her future to Yahweh?
~ First Line ~
The sound of my knock on the wooden chamber door echoed in the pit of my stomach.
May you have a blessed time this weekend, celebrating the resurrection of our Saviour!
I’d love it if you’d share the first line of whatever you’re currently reading in the comments. And don’t forget, you can find out what other bloggers are sharing for First Line Friday by going over to Hoarding Books blog and finding all the links. If you’ve got your own blog, why not join in and add your link over there. 🙂
Happy Friday!
I just bought Counted With the Stars last week and have it on my TBR list! Currently I am reading No Other Will Do by Karen Witemeyer.
My FLF is from Safely Home by Randy Alcorn. “Three men watched intently as peculiar events occurred, one right after the other, on opposite sides of the globe.”
Hope you have a wonderful weekend and a Happy Easter! 🙂
Enjoy Counted With the Stars. Your first line sounds intriguing, too!
The book you are featuring looks like a great book. This weekend I’m reading A Borrowed Dream by Amanda Cabot which is what I’m sharing on my blog and what I’ll share here “It was only a dream.”
It’s a fabulous book, as are the others in the series. Must read Biblical fiction!
I have this book on my TBR shelf. I have heard great things about it. Now I just need to make time to read it! Thanks for sharing.
On my blog I am sharing from A Loyal Heart by Jody Hedlund, but here I will share from a new addition to my TBR pile, The Weaver’s Daughter by Sarah E. Ladd. “Alarm’s menacing sting pricked Kate Dearborn’s consciousness and hurried her steps.” Happy Friday!
Quite the opening!
I need to read this book! Thank you for sharing it today. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Yes, you do! Such a fabulous series!
My frist paragraph is from: Life on the Porcelain Edge by C.E. Hilbert
Tessa Tarrington’s life was in the toilet.
Job? FIRED
Dad? HEART ATTACK
Current residence? CHILDHOOD BEDROOM
Love life? NON-EXISTENT.
Her life was swirling in the bowl, just waiting for the ultimate flush.
It’s humorous but deals with hard issues.
Sounds like one I need to check out. Thanks for sharing!
Happy Easter!
Same to you 🙂
I shared a different first line on my blog, but here’s the first line of my current read: “Aven peered down at the letter again, noted the address written in Aunt Dorothe’s hand, then looked back to the wooden sign that was staked into the ground.” -my ARC of Sons of Blackbird Mountain by Joanne Bischof
Happy Good Friday!!! 🙂
Ooh! I can’t wait for that one. I didn’t know the ARCs were available yet!
🙂 Netgalley is a wonderful thing.
The book sounds interesting and unlike anything I’ve read before. Happy Easter! I’m a day late because of Good Friday commitments yesterday. The book I’m sharing on my blog is The Social Tutor by Sally Britton. I enjoyed this novel. Here, I’m sharing the first line from another one of her books I just finished reading this week called Martha’s Patience. “If you do not stop this instant, I may have to faint.”
It’s a fabulous series!
I.LOVE.THIS.BOOK!!!! Ok…really…this whole series!
Isn’t it great!!
