Welcome to another edition of First Line Friday, hosted by Hoarding Books. I have been looking forward to the book I’m featuring this week for SO. LONG. And I can’t believe I’ve actually had to wait until right now to read it. I’ve had an advance reader copy sitting on my Kindle for at least TWO weeks now, and I’ve had to wait, because, well, life and stuff. 😩 But I am happily ensconced in its pages now.
What is it, you ask? Charming the Troublemaker by Pepper Basham! Book two in the Mitchell’s Crossroads series, and if you’ve ever read any of Pepper’s contemporary romances (in particular), you’ll know you’re in for a whole lot of fun! And it’s out now!
~ About the Book ~
When Dr. Alex Murdock is demoted to a university in rural Virginia, the last thing he expects to find is a future. But country charm never looked as good as it did on Rainey Mitchell.
Rainey Mitchell does not need a high-class flirt in her wounded world, but trouble and temptation wafts off the new professor as strong as his sandalwood-scented cologne. When circumstances thrust them together to save her tutoring clinic, can the troublemaker find the hero inside and encourage the reticent Rainey to open her heart again?
~ First Line ~
Loser ex-husbands and freezing January afternoons left a nasty chill.
Poor Rainey. But I think things are about to warm up considerably! 😉
I’d love it if you’d share the first line of whatever you’re currently reading in the comments. And don’t forget, you can find out what other bloggers are sharing for First Line Friday by going over to Hoarding Books blog and finding all the links. If you’ve got your own blog, why not join in and add your link over there. 🙂
Thanks so much, Katie!!! #underoos 🙂
Hehehe! 😂 Best. Scene. Ever.
That’s funny, this is the same book I’m reading right now. 🙂 But for my first line, I’m featuring Masquerade by Janette Rallison which I re-read this week.
“Opportunity didn’t knock for Slade Jacobson – it rang his cell phone at 10:34 pm while he was putting his daughter to bed for the third time.”
I hope you enjoy Charming the Troublemaker as much as I did! Because I couldn’t put it down until I was finished!
I haven’t heard of this author before. I’ll have to check her out.
My first line is “Sometimes leading also means following. Sometimes being first means you actually arrive second.” Service Tales by Ace Collins
Oh, you definitely have to check her out! One of my favourites! <3
You’ll just love Pepper’s books, Tima!!
I finished this one last week. And I agree the underoos is the best scene!
The first line of the book I’m currently reading is:
England, December 23, 1813
Holly Gray’s courage faded with every step she took deeper inside the castle conservatory where, according to Grandfather’s stories, a ghost resided.
Christmas Secrets by Donna Hatch
Definitely! But poor Holly Gray. I hope it’s an uneventful visit!
I absolutely loved reading this book! Pepper definitely has a way with words, I know I’m in for a special treat anytime I pick up one of her books! 🙂
Speaking of amazing authors…Over on my blog I’m sharing the first line from Sarah Monzon’s latest book just released this week; “The Esther Paradigm”. I’m just over half-way through the book, and I’m loving the story. But you’ll have to go over there to read the first line for The Esther Paradigm. Here I’ll share with you the first line from an older favorite.
Bedford, England — May 1659
“The babe’s crying would rip her heart to shreds if she had to listen to it one more minute.” — The Preacher’s Bride by Jody Hedlund
Yes! Pepper’s books are always a treat!
Happy Friday! LOVE this book!!!!
My first line is from Pepper Basham’s Charming the Troublemaker:
“Loser ex-husbands and freezing January afternoons left a nasty chill.”
Great minds think alike!
My line comes from Merri’s Christmas Mission in the Making Spirits Bright boxset collection.
“A ribbon of vehicles wound and curled around the block, shifting up one car at a time as children tumbled from the toasty interiors and into the freezing air outside.”
Great imagery!
I keep seeing this book pop up in my feed. I really need to read this! haha.
I’m featuring The Princess Bride on my blog, but I’m currently reading Meg Mitchell & the Secret of the Journals by Kimberly McNeil so I’ll share that here.
Prologue
If I say I go to the White Raven for the food, I’d be lying, and I’m a journalist, which means I don’t lie.
Happy Friday!
Yes! Pepper is always a must-read! And I love that you’re featuring The Princess Bride. True story – I spent ages looking for the ‘original’ story he supposedly based this book on! 😊
Haha that’s awesome! It’s hard to find an original because I think it’s mostly just William Goldman’s abridged translation that can be found easily now. 🙂
This book is already on my TBR list. Can’t wait to read it.
Happy Friday!!! Today, I’m showcasing A Mother For His Family by Susanne Dietze. So here I will share the first two lines from the novel next in line on my review pile, Deadly Proof by Rachel Dylan.
“You can’t call that a settlement offer.” Kate Sullivan looked directly into the dark eyes of her opposing counsel, who represented a medical device company.
It’s sooooo good! Enjoy your other reads. 🙂
Thank you!
Happy Friday! LOVE PEPPER!
His quarry was late. Very late. – An Eye For An Eye by Irene Hannon
Oh, that’s going back a ways! I think that might have been the second Irene Hanson book I ever read. And YES! I love Pepper too!
Afternoon…
My first line is from
Karen’s Gift by Jean Brunstetter (2nd novella in the book The Beloved Christmas Quilt)…
…Lykens, Pennsylvania…”As Karen Allgyer rode home from church with her family, she gazed at the bundle of sweetness in her arms”…
Blessings, Tina
Good afternoon to you too! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Funny sentence…so I suppose both things are synonymous with each other?! 🙂 Happy Friday!
Pretty much! Have a great weekend 🙂
Oh my goodness, CTTM is soooo fun! Enjoy it, Katie!
My first line on the blog today is from a favorite: Born of Persuasion by Jessica Dotta.
Here are the first two lines of my current and riveting read, Lady Jayne Disappears by Joanna Davidson Politano: “Well, Miss Harcourt. Are you, or are you not, Nathaniel Droll?”
I very much enjoyed it, Courtney! Couldn’t put it down 🙂
More Pepper Basham. Because my to-read pile isn’t big enough already.
I’m sharing from Blue Ridge Sunrise by Denise Hunter on my blog today, and I’m currently reading the Regency Brides collection. Here’s the first line to the second novella in the book, Masquerade Melody by Angela Bell:
Whoever coined the phrase to “bite one’s tongue” was sorely mistaken in believing that silence inflicted mere physical harm.
Oh, there’s always room on the TBR pile for Pepper! Love that first line you shared, too. 🙂
Excellent book! I LOVE Charming The Troublemaker!
I’m sharing the first line from Susanne Dietze’s novella “Three Little Matchmakers” in The Regency Brides Collection
So, the rumors about Henry Graves, the Earl of Marsden, were true.
Happy Weekend!
It was great, wasn’t it?! And that’s the third first line I’ve come across from that novella collection. I definitely think it’s supposed to be on my TBR!
Solid first line – though being from Minnesota, I quite enjoy chilly January afternoons. Happy Reading!
Chilly and January are a contradiction in terms here! 😄
Great minds think alike! I continued to read this book today. Oh my goodness…..I wish my battery lasted longer on my ipad! This is why I like to read real books lol
Yes, battery life isn’t an issue with the real thing. Hope you’re enjoying it as much as I did!
oh yes! I am loving it 🙂
Louis drew his hand back from his mama’s cheek – Twilight Christmas by Normandie Fischer
Thanks for sharing. Have a great weekend. 🙂
