Welcome to First Line Friday, hosted by Hoarding Books! I was hoping to have read this book by now—it released over a week ago now—but it hasn’t quite made it to the top of the pile yet. Nevertheless, when I saw the first lines, I couldn’t resist sharing them here. The book is Royally in Trouble by Jenny B. Jones, and if you’ve ever read any of her stuff before, you’ll know how funny she is.
~ About the Book ~
If an ex-popstar-turned-event planner can’t find a Ren-faire killer, she may not survive the final act.
As a former member of a popular girl-band, Paisley Sutton knows what it means to be in the spotlight. So after she takes on an event- planning gig for the new Sugar Creek Renaissance faire, she’s counting on a smooth opening night. But when one of the cast is murdered, Paisley knows her event has gone lethally off-script.
When her old flame Beau is named the prime suspect, Paisley enlists the help of her trigger-happy, ex-CIA grandmother and aunt. As she tries to keep the faire alive and fights off her matchmaking family, she uncovers secrets that might just get her killed. Can Paisley shine a light on the killer in time, or will the faire be her final curtain call?
Royally in Trouble is the second book in the lively Enchanted Events cozy mystery series with a dash of romance. If you like engaging characters, small-town intrigue, and laugh-out-loud moments, then you’ll love Jenny B. Jones’ Renaissance romp.
~ First Line ~
Corsets.
Tiaras.
Turkey legs.
Yes, I could have given you more, but I’m interested to see what you make of this list! 😂
I’d love it if you’d share the first line of whatever you’re currently reading in the comments. And don’t forget, you can find out what other bloggers are sharing for First Line Friday by going over to Hoarding Books blog and finding all the links. If you’ve got your own blog, why not join in and add your link over there. 🙂
Ha! That first line makes me want to hurry up and pick up a copy just to learn more. I’m hooked!
I’m sharing about “A Lady of a Thousand Treasures” by Sandra Byrd over at my blog, but I’m almost finished reading, “The Bullying Breakthrough” by Jonathan McKee. So my first line will come from there.
It’s 6:37 a.m., and I haven’t slept for hours.
This has been an emotional project for me, probably the toughest I’ve ever tackled. Not because the research has been any more burdensome or the topic more daunting, but because never have I heard so much anguish and hurt.
Happy Friday! Hope you have a wonderful reading filled with lots of good books to enjoy. 😀
I devoured this book the day it was released. I love Jenny B Jones stories so much.
Happy Friday!🍁🍁 I love Jenny B Jones!!
My first lines come from a book I’m very excited to be reading soon, Resistance Women by Jennifer Chiaverni……..
The heavy iron doors open and for a moment Mildred stands motionless and blinking in the sunlight, breathless from the sudden rush of cool, fresh air caressing her face and lifting her hair. The guard propels her forward into the prison yard, his grip painful and unyielding around her upper arm.
Have a great weekend and happy reading!💕📚📖🍁
Happy Friday! This week on my blog I’m featuring Everything She Didn’t Say by Jane Kirkpatrick but it’s also the book I’m currently reading so I’ll share the first line from my current chapter (13) here: “Doing what I haven’t ever done before has become a kind of purpose for me.” Hope you have a great weekend with plenty of quality reading time!
The first line sounds gripping.
This week I shared from The Storm-Tossed Family (Russell Moore)
So here I’ll share from my next book Basics for Believers (D.A. Carson)
`The five chapters of this book provide an introduction to a letter the apostle Paul wrote to the Philippian Christians almost two thousand years ago.`
Happy Friday! My first line is from “Oceans Apart” by Clare Revell, included in the set “Somewhere Beyond the Blue”:
“Oliver Voight checked his passport for the third time.”
The book blurb completely had me at “trigger-happy, ex-CIA grandmother and aunt.” 😀 I’m sharing from my current read, Temptation Rag by Elizabeth Hutchison Bernard. Here is a line from the top of page 9:
“She thought she would never tire of watching him at the piano, his fingers caressing the keys, a look of such tenderness on his face as if he would gladly die for each and every note.”
Happy Friday and have a wonderful weekend!

I read a novel about Renaissance faires earlier this year – I didn’t even know they were a thing!
I’m featuring Pathway to Peace by Elizabeth Maddrey on my blog, and I’ve just picked up That’s When I Knew by Laurie Tomlinson. Here’s the first line:
“Bless her heart. Chelsea Scott’s sales director had no idea what she was getting them into.”
I’m guessing this is that Southern meaning of “bless her heart” which means anything but!
