Welcome to First Line Friday, hosted by Hoarding Books! The book I’m featuring today actually released around ten years ago, but it’s just been released with a brand new cover (which I LOVE) in honour of an exciting announcement! You can read my full review here, but just let me say, this was an absolutely RIVETING read. I really, truly couldn’t put it down. As in, my brain would be reciting “This is the last chapter for now” like a mantra, but somehow the message didn’t filter to either my hands or my eyes.

~ About the Book ~

Right up until the day they burned the church, I thought I understood things. You know… God, people, myself. Life. Then, suddenly, I understood nothing except that we had to run. And that we might never make it home.

When eighteen-year-old Cori signed up for a mission trip to Indonesia she was mostly thinking about escaping her complicated love life, making new friends, and having fun on the beach.

She never expected a civil war to flare up on the nearby island of Ambon.

She never expected violence to find them.

And she never expected that seven teenagers would be forced to flee into the hazardous refuge of the mountains on their own.

Now, haunted by blood and fire, Cori and her teammates must rely on each other to survive.

~ First Line ~

It only takes a day and a half for the dreams to find me again.

It’s such a good read!

I’d love it if you’d share the first line of whatever you’re currently reading in the comments. And don’t forget, you can find out what other bloggers are sharing for First Line Friday by going over to Hoarding Books blog and finding all the links. If you’ve got your own blog, why not join in and add your link over there. 🙂

    PROLOGUE
    Five years ago

Andie grabbed the pommel, slid her foot in the stirrup and hopped up on May-a fifteen-hand black cutting horse with white socks.

    Happy Friday and happy reading!

  2. Over on my blog I’m sharing the first line from Magnolia Summer by Melanie Dickerson. Here I’ll share the first line from chapter 5 of the same book.

“The eastern sky turned pink as Celia dressed for the day.”

Happy Friday! My first line is from “A Widow’s Hope” by Vannetta Chapman:

    “Monday mornings were never easy.”

  4. Happy Friday! The book I’m sharing on my blog is “Out of the Storm” by Jody Hedlund. Since I’m still reading it, I will share the first line of the fourth chapter here. “Isabelle,” called Henry from the bedroom. “I need you!” May your weekend be all you’re hoping it will be.

  5. Happy Friday!
Today on my blog, I am sharing the first line from Tracy Groot’s novel The Stones of my Accusers. Currently, I am reading Finding Us by Heather Moore. So far, it’s a fun book. One of those books that has me smiling with each page! I am starting chapter 7, so I will leave the first line from there.

“Opening the bookshop on Saturday morning wasn’t as bad as Felicity thought it might be.”

Hope you have an excellent weekend filled with quality reading time!

  6. Happy Friday! That is a good cover.

After preparing my blog post sharing first line from Shelley Shepard Gray’s Her Fear, I ended up reading the entire book. So here I’ll share the first lines for a novella I plan to read soon, Come Fly with Me by Gina Welborn and Becca Whitham:

Please, let him not be here. As Luanne Palmer climbed the stairs to the second floor, she muttered “please” after “please.”

  7. Paula Shreckhise

My first line is from chapter 6 of The Cumberland Bride by Shannon McNear:

Morning dawned with a bit more edge to the wind and the clouds more thick and grey, spitting definite rain.

  8. Ellie

I’m currently reading A Stolen Heart by Amanda Cabot. The first line is “No matter what anyone said, she wouldn’t believe this was a mistake.”

  9. Iola Goulton

This is definitely going on my to-read pile!

I’m sharing the first line from All Made Up by Kara Isaac on my blog this week. It’s currently available for pre-order, and it’s another winner in my totally biased opinion 🙂

I’m currently reading Delayed Justice by Cara Putman. Here’s the first line:

    “It’s time to go, sweetie.”

    Have a great weekend!

  10. This week on my blog I shared the first line from Playing for More by Case Keenum to celebrate NFL season. (I feel the need to share that I’m a Colts fan). I am also currently reading Indivisible by Travis Thrasher so I will share the first line of that here: “She carries the memories and always will.” Hope you have a great weekend with plenty of reading time! 🙂
