Welcome to First Line Friday! Today is release day for book number six in Tamara Leigh’s Age of Faith series, so how could I feature any other book for First Line Friday?! I also interviewed Tamara yesterday, so if you missed that make sure you click here. After commenting with your own first line, of course!
~ About the Book ~
A VEXING LADY
Answering her father’s summons to return home, Lady Beata Fauvel must evade capture by noblemen who seek to wed a great heiress. But when she falls into the hands of Queen Eleanor of England, she discovers her sovereign has plans of her own for the lady known France over as The Vestal Widow. Now Beata must not only escape the knight entrusted with ensuring she does not wed without permission, but survive a storm-tossed sea and revelation of a long-buried secret that could destroy her family. And what of a heart that wants what it cannot have? Will it only ever beat for the queen’s man?
A REPENTANT KNIGHT
For years, Sir Durand Marshal has faithfully served his queen as penance for betrayal of the Wulfrith family. When he rescues a woman pursued by vassals of the French king, he is charged with delivering to England the nearly scandalous lady who has only a name in common with the one he once loved. Though he never expects to feel anything beyond annoyance for the outspoken Lady Beata, he finds himself drawn to yet another woman denied him. Can he fulfill his duty to his liege? Or will he forsake his redemption and forever ruin his reputation—more, the lady’s?
~ First Line ~
“Women were more trouble than they were worth. Or so Sir Durand Marshal told himself each time one dragged him into a mess like this one promised to do.”
I can’t wait to dive in!

Good morning. My first line is from, “Stars in the Grass,” by Ann Marie Stewart. Read with a box of tissues nearby. 🙂
“We rushed upward into the night sky, lifted by an unseen force.”
Enjoy!
Thanks for the warning!
You’re welcome.
I’m looking forward to reading The Vexing! On my blog today I’m sharing a line from Pepper Basham’s book The Thorn Healer. I wanted to share something different in the comment, so I’m choosing a book that my son is currently reading. “As soon as she heard the first pop, pop, pop of the distant muskets, the young mother extinguished the morning fire and closed and barred the cabins shutter.” Abandoned on the Wild Frontier (The Trailblazer books) by: Dave & Neta Jackson Bethany House, 1995
I hope you enjoy Sir Durand’s tale! Love the first line of your son’s book–really grabs me.
Hi Tamara, I loved the other books in this series! I can’t wait to read The Vexing! I’ve purchased it and it’s on my TBR stack. My son is 9 and he LOVES to read (just like his mommy). The Trailblazer books are really great for Middle School readers!
Not sure I’d like to be abandoned on the wild frontier!
My first line comes from The Magnolia Duchess by Beth White.

MOBILE POINT
She could set fire to the letter in her pocket and it would still be true.
Loved that book!
This is the first sentence:
“I have a meanness inside me, real as an organ.” ~ Dark Places by Gillian Flynn

Wow! What a first line!
It’s appropriately called Dark Places!
I love the first line too 🙂
Very appropriate!
On my blog today is the first line from Irene Hannon’s Sea Rose Lane so I am going to leave the first line from Between the Reins by Liz Isaacson that is releasing on May 16th. “The barn door banged open as Gil, one of the male counselors, burst through it, “Owen, there’s a fight we need your help with.”
Welcome to the First Line team! 🙂
My copy downloaded last night, and I can’t wait to spend an afternoon with these characters. Happy Friday!
Awesome! Tell Durand and Beata I already miss them–but I’ll see them in The Awakening 🙂
Enjoy!
HAPPY FRIDAY….Saturday? LOL!
Saturday 🙂 Off to do the first ballet run!
Happy Saturday! 🙂
I have some of Tamara Leigh’s books but haven’t read any yet. Pulling-in first line!
It certainly is! Have a great weekend 🙂
Not read anything by this author yet, but the first line is interesting. Have a wonderful weekend, well what’s left of it anyway 🙂
Thank you. About to enjoy Mother’s Day lunch as I type this!
Hope you are having a lovely book-filled weekend…or that you already did, because I am pretty sure it is Monday where you are 🙂
It is now 🙂 And I finished ‘The Vexing’, so it was good reading!
Well my Mother’s Day just got better. So very glad you enjoyed Durand and Beata’s tale! Happy dancing!
What agony you put them through! But it was worth it in the end 😁
I need more Tamara Leigh in my life.
After the preview of her next novel, I’m saying the same thing! 🙂
Squeee! So glad you like the excerpt. I’m feeling empowered. I can redeem it. I can! Have a beautiful week.
Aww, thanks Beth! I need more you 🙂 You bless me!
