Weekend Book Buzz – 1/2 December 2018

Welcome to the Weekend Book Buzz! And welcome to . . . December. Ack! How did it get here so quickly? Although, I can officially say I’ve started Christmas shopping. That’s a good sign, isn’t it? Of course, if I could just give everyone I know books for Christmas, that would be easy! 😉 Do you give books for Christmas? If you do, you’ll find plenty of ideas here!

First Line Friday – The Making of Mrs. Hale (Carolyn Miller)

Welcome to First Line Friday, hosted by Hoarding Books! My choice for this week is a Regency romance that turns the romance and excitement of an elopement to Gretna Green on its head. The Making of Mrs. Hale is the third and final book in Carolyn Miller’s Regency Brides: A Promise of Hope series. You can read my full review here, but I will tell you this one is my favourite of the series!

The Making of Mrs. Hale (Carolyn Miller) – Review

~ About the Book ~ Marry in haste, repent in leisure—Mrs. Hale is about to find out how painful that repentance can truly be. Julia Hale ran off to be married in Gretna Green, following romance instead of common sense. But her tale isn’t turning into a happily ever after. Her new husband is gone and she doesn’t know where—or if he’s ever coming back. Julia has no option but to head home to the family she betrayed by eloping and to hope they’ll forgive her. Especially now that she might be carrying a baby from her brief marriage. Carolyn

It’s been quite a weekend here, with the men-folk of the house away for the weekend to attend a 90th birthday celebration, while the girls stayed at home to attend the dress rehearsal for the end-of-year ballet concert. Three ballet girls, seven costumes, five hours rehearsing… I think we all know who’s going to sleep well tonight! Perhaps your weekend was a little more relaxing!

~ About the Book ~ Even the most admired families have secrets to hide . . . Nina Fischer carries a camera wherever she goes—so she can view life through a filter. Safely. Wealthy and proud, he is a good man, a fair judge, and someone many in San Antonio admire.  But when he is murdered, and the detective assigned to the case accuses Nina of the crime, she knows she must act. She’s determined to

First Line Friday – A Holiday by Gaslight (Mimi Matthews)

Welcome to First Line Friday, hosted by Hoarding Books! I’ve discovered a new author recently, thanks to Rachel McMillan, and she’s just released a Christmas novella—perfect for those who’d like to get a taste of her writing. Mimi Matthews writes Victorian romances for the general market (clean), often with slightly Gothic overtones (although not so much in this novella), and I loved A Holiday by Gaslight. In fact, if you’re a fan of Elizabeth Gaskell’s North and South, you’ll find quite a few nods to that story here. You can check out my full review here.
