Word Nerd Wednesday – Out of the Blue

Welcome, word nerds! Word Nerd Wednesday is back after a two-week hiatus due to sheer busyness! This week’s phrase comes to you from my eldest daughter, who loves these posts (and proof reads them before I post them!) She heard me use the phrase ‘out of the blue’ earlier this week and immediately said, “That’s a great idea for a Word Nerd Wednesday post!” Well, I couldn’t say no to that! I had a pretty fair idea of what blue referred to before I looked this one up, and I was right; blue refers to the sky. But why do we

Top Ten Tuesday – Favourite Book Quotes

Happy Tuesday to you all! This week’s topic from That Artsy Reader Girl has result in several hours of getting lost in some of my favourite reads, because we’re discussing favourite book quotes. And if I wasn’t in the habit of highlighting things on my Kindle as I read, I probably wouldn’t even be writing this right now; I’d STILL be lost reliving some of my favourite bookish moments on the quest for quotes to share. It’s a tough life, hey? 😉 But I’ve managed to rein myself in just in time. This is by no means a definitive list, and

Delightful Descriptions

Praise God there is One who is strong in our weakness!

Reading Between the Lines

I don’t know about you, but I love it when authors manage to say things without actually saying them.  Subtlety in writing is an artform that fewer and fewer authors seem to grasp, but when I read this recently I had to laugh: She climbed the stairs to the second level, where cool marble floors gleamed and the scents of wax and the freesias in their Chinese vase on the hall table greeted her in a silent benediction.  There was much to be said for silence.  Perhaps Mama had not yet returned from paying her afternoon calls. Lady of Devices

Caveat Lector!

A word to the wise.  I should perhaps have this engraved on a plaque above my bed (and maybe a few other strategic places around the house)! “Finally, from so little sleeping and so much reading, his brain dried up and he went completely out of his mind.” Don Quixote – Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra You have been warned!
